I've never felt compelled to review a book, until now.
I am a mystery and suspense fan and I am a scuba diver. A read more books about diving and wrecks, both fiction and nonfiction, than the average person. Unfortunately, there are a lot of bad books in this genre so I didn't have high hopes when I started this book. Most of the books about wrecks that I read are about wrecks in the Caribbean so I wasn't sure that a book about a wreck in the Great Lakes could be convincing and entertaining. This is one of the best books that I have read in a long while. I was completely entertained. The characters were compelling without being too perfect. I connected with Hutch, I couldn't help but think I know people like him. A little grouchier and more dysfunctional and not as adventurous but at their core very similar. There a few books that I have read that get the scuba diving parts right. They go too deep, are down for too long or think the gauges show how many minutes left not how many PSI. You can tell that the author isn't a diver and didn't bother consulting with a diver for the book. I don't know if Landon is a diver, I would guess he is or had a diver give suggestions. My only complaint about the book (I thought) is that the author didn't adequately describe how cold the water temperature is. I am from Minnesota and I have swum in Lake Superior, which generally doesn't get out of the 50s. While writing this review I googled and found that Lake Michigan water temperatures can be in the 70s and even 80s. I withdraw my complaint. If you are looking for an entertaining book with interesting characters and enough turns and twists to keep you guessing. I highly recommend this book. I have already bought his other book.

'The Wreck' shows a father-son relationship that grows between Hutch and Nate
In 'The Wreck', Landon Beach does a nice job of bringing the different generations together in the characters of Nate Martin and Hutch. As Nate and Hutch work together to unearth the mystery and meaning of the gold coin Nate found on the beach by his house, they put aside assumptions of the other's generation and each other as they get to know each other. 'The Wreck' shows a father-son relationship that grows between Hutch and Nate. Hutch realizes that Nate has been taught some good things by his late father and Nate learns about the challenges Hutch has faced and overcome in his life.Landon Beach is also well-informed on terminology related to watercraft and uses the terminology consistently throughout the story.

Great Holiday Reading
This book advertises itself as a summer read, and since it was recommended to me by a friend on that basis I downloaded it as holiday reading. Alas, I will have to get something else because I started reading it as soon as it arrived on my Kindle and didn't stop until I reached the end - it really is that much of a page-turner.To be honest, I know nothing about the Great Lakes, but that is not what this novel is about. It's a great, suspenseful account of derring-do, full of valiant men and beautiful women, and makes a wonderful bit of holiday reading, if you can leave it alone until you get on holiday, that is.

Maritime treasure hunters.
I enjoyed reading this book. It was an interesting story about maritime treasure hunters with a few twists to the plot.I felt that the ending was rather rushed, it could have been expanded and brought to a more satisfactory resolution.

Intrigue on the Great Lakes
I saw this book on Kindle Unlimited and noted it had great reviews. The plot sounded interesting, a series of books based on the Great Lakes, so I decided to give the series a try. I also noted a new book had just been published, but the audio version isn't ready yet, so I started with this book first. The Wreck was an enjoyable book that took time to set things up. We get to know the major players and the characters feel real. After the leading man finds a gold coin, the intrigue begins. The last chapters were thrilling, though I felt it ended too abruptly. We didn't find out who saved our heroes and how things went with the villain. The audio version includes the prologue and a chapter of the next book in the series, read by the wonderful Scott Brick. I listened to this more than reading it, since I love audio books and talented narrators really bring books alive. A great book for a first timer, very authentic feeling and realistic.
