Easier than a refractometer
and also easier than a hydrometer to test salinity in a saltwater aquarium.1/15/2021 Update,I am having difficulty with this device. It does not appear to be properly calibrated even though the packaging said it had been factory calibrated. The readings on my saltwater aquarium were lower than I expected. I live on the Atlantic ocean (outer banks of NC), so I decided to test natural seawater.Seawater ppt should be 34-36ppt. The device read 28ppt, 2.8% salinity. Conductivity for seawater should be 53mS/cm, the device read 45.8 mS/cm. A bulb/alcohol thermometer recorded the temperature at 72 degrees F, the device reports 67.8 degrees F. Similar readings were obtained on the aquarium as from the ocean. So unless I hear something from the manufacturer, I'll need to drop my rating to 1 and return the device before the deadline.1/27/2021 updateCitzada refunded my purchase due to the problems I encountered. Their service/response was great, unfortunately the product did not work. Too bad, great idea at a great price.

BEST AQUARIUM TOOL for Measuring SALINITY you will ever Buy!
BEST AQUARIUM TOOL EVER!If you are looking for a way to deal with marine aquarium salinity, THIS IS IT! At first, I thought this tester wouldn't work because I couldn't find a measurement for specific gravity, which is what my hydrometer reads. I did find on the net that salinity of sea water is usually 3.5% (expressed as 35 parts per thousand) or 35 ppt which is what this instrument measures. This method is not affected by temperature, a problem with hydrometer readings. Different areas of the world vary due to fresh water variance so I adjusted my tank water down to 33.5ppt for my tank mates found in the Indonesian area and EVERY ONE IS REALLY HAPPY… and I now KNOW the water salinity is RIGHT!

TDS and salt were the same readings
I took a test reading with my water and the salt reading and TDS were exactly the same and basically zero on percentage of salt. When I added salt to the water I got a salt reading higher than the TDS and also a percentage. So I have to make the assumption that I need to subtract the TDS was sought reading to get an actual salt reading which is not explained in the instructions. I'm going to obtain a test solution to check it out further. If it's NOT accurate it will be going back

Junk
Would not recommend this. It pretends to be precise with living up to it. Cryptic instructions. Unable to calibrate using calibration fluid . It is extremely slow to read temperature. Starts 10 degrees low and never quite gets there....over a minute.Just spend the money on a dedicated salt water meter. And after 30 days when it doesnt work and you cannot return it...you will thank me

not accurate
At first this was good looking tool but after having this for a month it does not appear to be accurate at all. it was reading little high at 35.2ppt while my salinity was at 31ppt. After I calibrated in back to 35ppt with calibration solution, couple hours later it is showing 32.9 in the same calibration solution.

Great meter for the price
No assembly required. Very solid piece of equipment. Functions just as it is supposed to. Documentation is limited.

Inaccurate
After a couple of months of using this for my koi pond, I tested the thermometer with another known accurate one. This one is 10 degrees off. Which makes me question the accuracy of the salinity calculations. Would not recommend.
