A Tale of Two Mommies

Cute and good message
This was an adorable children's book that provides a quick story told through the voice of a little boy who has two mom's. His friends ask him if his two moms can do all the things that they think a daddy should be able to do and its great to see the boy explain that his moms can do anything dads can do. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the eARC.

A Tale of Two Mommies
We hit the beach for our questions this time in A Tale of Two Mommies. Oelschlager and Blanc showcase cultural diversity in this book along with rainbow answers. The design and layout is the same as Two Daddies. Questions on one page and answers with the activities on the next. The colors are just as vibrant as the first book.Oelschlager doesn’t pigeonhole women as they have them fish, fix things, camping, and doing the typical parental life tasks like who teaches you to be polite.I recommend both books to read to children as this one too has great activities, color, and messages.

Delightful and diverse picture book
Actually a 4.5 out of 5 starsA Tale of Two Mommies by Vanita Oelschlager (author) & Mike Blanc (illustrator) is a charming book about a young boy talking with another boy and girl about his two mommies, Mommy and Momma.I really enjoyed this book except for one thing. I felt that it began and ended really abruptly. Perhaps that's how the author intended it to be, but it felt awkward to me. Outside of that, I really enjoyed the story. The illustrations are brightly colored, engaging, and delightful. There is a diversity in the characters. The two mothers appear to be caucasian, as is the little girl the young boy is talking to. The protagonist of the story is a little black boy and the other little boy is Asian. I appreciate that the author/illustrator took the time to make the characters diverse.I also loved how the questions were very much kid-oriented. They're great questions and answers as far as which Mom helps the child with various things.I would definitely recommend this book as a good LGBTQ resource!** Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of this book. I was not compensated for my review. All opinions and conclusions are my own. **

Beautiful book for anyone!
We got this book for our twins as they have two mommies. It's so great to be able to sit and read a book to them about a family like theirs. But what is really neat is the fact that this book is about a boy being asked about his family - which our boys will certainly experience one day. It allows them to see how another boy handles the questions and is proud of his family. Honestly, this is a book that all families can learn from. The illustrations are fantastic, colorful, and appealing. You see the boy and his friends, but only the hands and feet of the mommies. It gives it a very child-friendly viewpoint while also focusing on the fact that all parents kind of look the same from the knees down and from the elbows down. The only possibly negative thing about this book is that both moms are quite femininely drawn. This may not be an issue for all families (it was not a big deal for us) but I can see how it might be for other two-mommy families.

Cute, but the wording can be a little confusing at times for kids
Cute and I liked the concept, but it was a little confusing to my 7 year old nephew and 5 1/2 year old daughter. They were getting confused about which mom the book was talking about on each page. I bought the book to start a conversation with my nephew. My daughter has a few friends with two moms, so this is perfectly normal to her, but my nephew has been having a hard time understanding how/why anyone would have two moms or two dads. This book and a few other books helped start a conversation with him about it.

This book is fine for starting (or continuing) the two mommy conversation
This book is fine for starting (or continuing) the two mommy conversation. The premise is that the kid's friends are trying to map over parent roles by asking "which mommy does this kind of thing with/for you?" It's sweet when both mommies step in for comfort. My only issue was with the hyper feminine mommies. I'm sure there are perfectly dressed, svelte and manicured mommy pairs out there, but most of us don't look like that. We're too busy being mommies.

Not what I was looking for
I bought this book for my friends who are having a baby and figured if I decided it was not an appropriate baby book I would give it to my son (he's 5). However, when I got the book and was actually able to read it I was so disappointed. It asks all sorts of cliche questions and their is a consistent stereotype that mama does masculine things and mommy feminine (I could have them mixed up, but you get the point). I could swear this book is written by a straight person trying to write a book for gay people.Beyond all of this, the text was abrupt, it is definitely not a story but rather just a series of questions and answers, which I had noted other reviewers mentioned, I just didn't expect the abruptness of it all. The pictures aren't bad, but nothing spectacular, but if the story had been better they would have been more than adequate. If you are desperate for a book with two moms then I guess this might be worth getting. Otherwise I'd pass. I've found several stories that talk about families in broader terms and not specifically heterosexual families that I much prefer and will stick with for now.

Very vibrant.
I really like the art in this book. It has a very cute message, and I like that it can hold a child's interest. It's very simple, but it's a good read to a toddler.

Excellent book
Bought this to take to my daughter and her wife to read to their two children who live in Australia. They were very pleased with the context of the book and the little boy who is 22months really related to the story, the baby was probably to young at the moment but I'm sure will enjoy the story as she gets older. I think it's a lovely book to relate to different type of families in different situations.Very pleased with this purchase.

Fab addition to any library
Perfect for explaining how all families are different to our little one. If you want your child to grow up to be tolerant and understanding then this is the book for you.

Very good book
It's a great book for kids with same sex parents. It shows that there are other kids in this set up and makes them relate to it.
