Cheap! But very stable and easy to use and adjust
I went for it not knowing what to expect. The previous reviews gave five stars, but I always want to try it out for myself. Ten months have past and I have not had one single problem develop like my previous spring mounts. It is still just as stable as the first week of use! Out of the box the installation instructions were simple to understand and it fit perfectly on both Toyota Corolla and a Ford Flex (different thicknesses of vent slats). What I really like the most is the quick release mounting lever which flips in both directions, one way for thinner vent slats and the other to accommodate thicker vent slats. I should have ordered one for each car, but it is a simple procedure to unmount in one car and quickly remount in the next. I drive daily over I-880 in California which has the most potholes per capita on any freeway I suspect, but my iPhone XR fits perfectly in this cradle and it is rock solidly held in place (unlike any other spring clips I used on my previous and smaller iPhone 6, which almost always spring out of the vent as I hit a large pothole). Regarding the larger size of an iPhone XR, in an Otterbox case, the dimensions add almost a half inch around the four sides of the phone. But the side claps of this Beam Electronics Air Vent Mount Holder expand to at least an inch wider on each side. I can safely state that this holder can an will hold any future phones that may have larger dimensions. I have used simpler spring clamps which were worthless, and didn't even begin to expand wide enough to hold my XR, much less be able to hold the heavier addition of a Defender case along bumpy roads. This mount ten months later is still convenient, sturdy and stable, and I no longer need worry about my phone flying onto the floor as I drive over bumpy roads. And all this for only $8.99? What a steal!

A great mount for the price - no negatives!
I frequently make long road trips, and I wanted something to keep my phone up and in my FOV so I could watch where Google Maps was directing me; I have pretty poor hearing, so the visual aids help. This mount works great. I was initially worried that it wouldn't attach well to the vent (my preferred mounting style) but after sliding the "lock" switch on the back, it is firmly attached. This mount also doesn't droop under your phone's weight. I have an older, chunky Android, (the J7, which according to Google, is roughly 1/3 of a pound, for reference) and it holds it up no problem. Even rough terrain and potholes don't make your phone jiggle or otherwise stray from where you have it aimed. The arms on the sides snuggle into the phone perfectly and keep it in place; my phone is roughly 3.11 inches across (more when it's in its case) and the arms hold onto it no problem. There is also room for wider or thinner phones; the arms have a great range. The slight upturn on the feet also ensure that sudden acceleration doesn't throw it out of the mount. There's even a convenient space between the feet to plug in your phone if you're worried it will run out of battery during your trip. I have no negatives, and the only suggestion I could give to the product developer is to offer it in other colors, but that's more of a personal preference issue.

Pretty good product!
This is my third attempt at a car phone mount and so far the only successful one. The earlier two attempts were both those sticky gel pads that attached to your windshield or dash and were meant to suction but had no suction whatsoever and fell off within 5 minutes. This one stays on the vents quite well, we'll see if the grip loosens over time or not. I have two kinds of vents in my car, one that rotates around in a full circle so the vent slats can be in any position (vertical, horizontal, diagonal, etc) and the other is just vertical. Due to the weight of your phone in the mount, it will move around as your vents move, especially on turns. It's not a huge deal and doesn't bother me, as I can always see the phone screen no matter where it shifts to. I ended up using this on the vertical vent to the right of the steering wheel. When it shifts to the left during movement it does get very close to my windshield wiper switch, making it hard to use. Thankfully the wiper switch is very rarely used, and when in use you only have to touch it once (unlike the turn signal switch - if that was obstructed by the mount it would be very annoying). I like the button release feature and it tightens on your phone very well. I have a case on my phone, plus a popsocket, making the thickness of my phone quite large. With the popsocket in the back of my case this mount JUST barely fits the thickness of my phone. I worry a little it'll fall out because the grips are just barely touching it, but so far it's been fine. I'm too lazy to take my case off each time I use it though. If you have a case alone it should be fine, but an added popsocket might make the thickness too much for the grips on the mount. Overall I am happy with this as it is the only mount that has worked! I also love how easy it is to take off and use in another car, which was a huge problem with the sticky pad versions

Nice product! Easy to install and adjust
Good product. I bought one of these for myself and my ex-wife. She uses it in a Mazda CX-7. I used it in an old Toyota Solara that I gave to my son and it worked really well. Now I have it in a Volvo S40 and it also fits nicely. On a trip from Virginia back to Missouri I used it in a rental Buick Encore and I found that the space between the vent louvers was almost too tight for the gripper blades of the attachment device on the back of the cradle to fit, but it did work satisfactorily. There are two things to consider when using a cradle of this type: 1. Is the vent I am going to attach it to high enough? 2. Is the space between the vent louvers wide enough to accept the blades of the cradle attachment. If the vents on your car are too low, you will need to take your eyes off the road for too long when using a GPS program like Google Maps, and that can be dangerous. It works better if your vents are higher up-- closer to the windshield. In addition, you need about a 1/4" of space between the louvers, and the blades have to go far enough in so they can grip one of the louvers securely. The mechanism that grips the smartphone holds it quite securely and there is a button on the back of the cradle near the bottom that releases it so you can remove it easily. Works well! I recommend this product.

Exactly as Advertised... Appealing, Functional, and Convenient Design
***Update: Last week, the pad on the side retainment mechanism fell off and will not reattach to the mount. The mount now does not hold my phone with the previous consistency. (Reference: Picture)*** Tested with a Samsung Galaxy Note 5 over the course of about 2-3 weeks. Mounted in the center horizontal air vent of a Chevy Malibu. Pros: 1. Exactly as advertised 2. Appealing, Functional, and Convenient Design Cons: 1. Durability The Beam Electronics Air Vent Mount replaces a previous air vent mount I had for my car. The Beam Electronics mount is a very functional and convenient non-electric system. When I get into my car, the process is as simple as placing my phone in the mount and closing the side retainment mechanism. When I am ready to get out of my car, I simply push the button on the back of the mount and my phone is free to be taken off the mount. Note: The side retainment mechanism moves at different speeds based on the temperature. It opens slowly in cold (40ยฐ F) temperatures and very fast in hot (90ยฐ F) temperatures. My device has never fallen off the mount and the mount has never fallen off the vent during the weeks that I have tried this device. I have not removed or readjusted the mount during any of those days and have driven on smooth and fairly rough roads (I have not been off-roading lately in my Chevy Malibu). In addition to being an impressive device, the customer service is exceptionally courteous. After receiving an email informing me of the 100% hassle free warranty and providing a digital copy of the instructions (which I did not read until after I messed up the assembly), I received another email from John at Beam Electronics. He offered me a free product to sample and keep. After taking a few precautionary measures to ensure this was not a scam, I followed the instructions, and a few days later, received the free sample product (which, for me, was another air vent mount, so that a family member could enjoy one also). In a way, this move by the company inspired me to write this review, since this is probably what is expected when you are given a free product to sample. I hope this review was helpful and informative for anyone looking for a car phone mount and considering the Air Vent Mount from Beam Electronics.

Love this product and love the price!
This product is super easy to use and works great! It fits my large Samsung Note 8 and my smaller Samsung S7 both with no problem. It attaches easily and securely to the air vent (I have the rectangular shaped with horizontal vents). You can easily rotate it from horizontal to vertical orientation for viewing wither way. You can use it while plugged in also. I stumbled upon this when I didn't even know I needed it. Sometimes I would play videos for my kiddos on my phone and hold it while driving, or prop it on something. Also, while I do have navigation on my car, it doesn't take traffic into account like Google does, so I like to use Maps too. This is great for either purpose. For videos, I have it in a horizontal orientation and for GPS, it is vertical. We took a family road trip to Tennessee (over 14 hours each way!) The kids had their tablets to entertain them, but I actually watched YouTube videos while my husband drove and once, when our navigation wasn't working in unfamiliar territory, this came in very handy. I got my husband one that was twice the price that goes in the CD slot, but in my car that would block my touchscreen for phone, navigation, entertainment and climate, so this works better for me. The only downside is obvious, that it does somewhat block the A/C. If you had to use the heat, it could potentially heat up your phone because the A/C definitely chills it. We rarely use heat and it is not an issue for us, so this is just guessing on my part. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a phone mount.

Purpose fit solution
I bought this for my 2015 Dodge Caravan as it has no built in GPS, and the old Garmin has seen better days. I sometimes use my iPhone 6's GPS, which meant having it in the cop holder and constantly looking down and unable to hear the directions. For $15, if it works, then I can purchase another for the 2016 Chevy Sonic we just bought for the kids to use (just started driving/working). The net result is 5 stars because I think it is a decent fit for purpose solution at a reasonable price, and I would recommend this to others. Assembly is easy, I disagree with the negative reviews on that; the ball and socket needs to be tight to stabilize. It's not like I had to use a 10lb sledge to push it together. It fits in the center vents good. I secured to the passenger vent (so it wouldn't block the driver's vent), and a bottom vane towards the side, just so it has the vent frame to add additional stability. I kept attaching and detaching, because it just never seemed secure, but it was. The gripping is actually tighter than you realize. The mechanism for attaching the phone is great, and simple, and no issues with the charging cord, or ear bud jack. I was a little worried it would detach from the vent, but after a couple weeks of doing nothing but taking the phone in and out (at least 4 times a day, 50 miles a day), it has remained in place. The best part, is having the phone GPS visible and audible! So far, it has been fit for purpose, and I will buy another for the Chevy. Pros: - Easy to assemble - Easy to attach and use - Phone cradle seems like it would work for a multitude of different phones - Slipping the phone in and out is easy - Hasn't detached in 2 weeks, over 50 miles a day, inserting and removing a phone at least 4 times a day, in a variety of road conditions (this includes a 340 mile round trip on a weekend), without any adjustment or re-attach to the vent Observations to note: - Blocks the vent it is attached, so shut it off (this is a "VENT MOUNT" after all) - You are limited to attaching where the vents are, your line of sight may vary, keep that in mind 8/5/2022 Update: Well, the "gripper" is starting to fail after 3 years. For something that is only about $10 I consider that pretty good for longevity. In reality, that equates to about 28 cents a month of usage. Not bad.

Cheap and Reliable! Just what I needed.
The product was fairly inexpensive which is why I picked it up. I didn't need any thing expensive, large, or fancy. I just needed something to hold my phone for GPS purposes while I'm driving, which this does OK. My only complaint, and it is a small complaint, after mounting the holder and putting the phone in it, it is a little loose, and this is with it securely clamped down. The clamps would not fit in my main vents, so my only choice was a side vent, which is fine because it keeps it out of my main dash area. Also, when I drive, because it is a little loose, it seems to wobble a tiny bit when I hit any kind of bump. Maybe the clamp needs to be a little longer and stronger? I have purchased other mounts that are magnet based, which they have their pros and cons. I like how strong they are and I like that they can be mounted anywhere. The downside for me, and the reason why I made the change, is the magnets only seem to work with very thin phone cases. I have a durable thicker case and the magnet barely registers through the thicker plastic, so it constantly slides off the mount. Maybe with a magnetic case this would be more viable? With it's minor issues I do like this product. If you are looking for a simple, small, and inexpensive mount that gets the job done, I would suggest buying one of these. For the price I paid for this, I think it is a bargain. I own three mounts right now and this is the one that is currently in use. I hope this information has been useful. *Side note-The phone I'm using is a standard size LG Premier. The vehicle I'm mounting it in is an older Honda Civic.

Easy
Extremely easy to set in the car, remove from the vent and adjust to the phone. Doesn't fall or produce weird noises due to vibration like my previous solution.

I loved this product so much I ordered another for myself and one for a friend. We both are very happy at the quality, function and ease of use. By far the best I have had, and I have had a few that were worthless. Thank you!!!
