The quietest window AC I've ever heard!
Haven't had this long yet but so far love it. It is by far the quietest window AC I've used. It arrived just in time for the hottest days of the year so far. It hit the mid 90's and high humidity. It is in our master bedroom that is bounded by 3 exterior walls and it is about 12'x24'. Not exactly a small room for this AC unit.Previously we had both a GE (8k BTU) and Frigidaire (8k BTU) units in there. They were in the window furthest from the bed. The GE was so loud my wife would let me turn it on while we were sleeping. It was too loud for me too but I'd rather be noisy and cool than quiet and hot. They way the air came out of the ducts, it really only wanted to come out one way regardless of how the vents were.So we bought the Frigidaire. It was substantially quieter and according to the salesperson on the big box BB store, many people were generally happy with it. While it was significantly quieter, it was still on the loud side. The window install kit was pretty complete but it was really picky about how level (or not) it was. If it was level, water pooled in it and caused issues. So after reading hundreds of reviews about the older version of this (lower EER rating), and there were no reviews at the time we ordered this one, decided to give it a shot. Thing arrived and toting it up the stairs, noticed the boxed weight was a lot more than the other ACs we had. It arrived nicely packed and undamaged. Kudos to UPS and Amazon! Unboxing was sort of a pain by myself as it is in sort of a box in a box. I should have gotten help to get the inner box out.I read the quick start instructions and popped in the window. I turned it on an nothing happened. Fan ran but no compressor so no cold air. My first thought is I got a broken one straight out of the box. I tried all the controls and nothing. When all else fails, RTFM! In the manual noticed that the compressor can be delayed up to 3 minutes. So waited a few minutes and it kicked on and started blowing cold air.It was then I realized that placement of this AC is crucial. The vents either go straight up or at best a 45 degree angle. Since my room is long and narrow, the AC was at the other end so I obviously was going to need a better way of getting the air to circulate through the room to cool ALL of the room down more quickly. So I fashioned a flap from the box to put over the vents and direct the air forward toward the rest of the room. I cranked it up on high and even then it was quieter than any of the other AC units I've tried in the bedroom and others we have in the house even when they are on LOW. Despite the pretty large and oddly shaped room it was in, even as the temps climbed into the 90's, it kept chugging a long, cooling off the room. After 2 hours, the room had gone from 85 degrees internally to 74 degrees even as the outside temps hit 95. I was definitely impressed at this point. I dialed it back to quiet and it did a pretty good job maintaining 74 in the entire room while being incredibly quiet. Late at night, it was still about 90 at 11pm and I was still waiting to see if it passed my wife's noisy sleeping test. Went to bed, nice and cool all night and my wife never complained a bit about the noise. Is it totally silent, of course not but it is very quiet. I am going to move it to the window by my side of the bed now as we really only need the part of the room around the bed cooled and not the entire room. It could run less frequently and do that. The remote is quite nice and one thing I love about it is you can turn off the lights on the AC unit and have it go into dark mode. While it doesn't have a built in thermostat in the remote that transmits the temp back to the AC like the Frigidaire does, that thermostat wasn't accurate. Also the Frigidaire and Haier remoter are infra red so they have to be in line of sight of the main AC. For the Frigidaire's remote thermostat to work means it always has to be in a place pointing at the AC unit to update it.What the Haier does do to help even out the temp fluctuations isn't as slick has having a thermostat in the remote but still works well. In economy mode, it cycles on for a few minutes to circulate the air through the unit about every 10 minutes to update the internal thermostat. I have seen a lot of AC units get fooled by the outside air cooling off the unit and then never kick on even when it is pretty hot inside the room. The remote replicates most of the functions on the main display and has the dark mode as well. That seems only available on the remote. So all in all I am very happy. It cost a bit more than the others but for me it was worth it. There is a very slight hum when the compressor kicks on but it isn't very quiet even when running at full speed with the compressor on. I still don't like the vent design but I understand why they did it. I am going to move the AC today and see if that works out better. Since it is so quiet, it is an option I didn't have with the other ones.

Yes, super quiet on low. Pull drain plug and snap down vents to 45°
A little heavy to install and takes a little time -- but well worth it. Could not find a quieter unit for under $400. Higher setting is obviously a lot louder but still quieter than other units' high settings. Cools my 12x14 room super fast. And thanks to Bryan’s review (below), when I finally pulled the dime-sized drain plug the rattling and cracking noises you read about in other reviews disappeared entirely! Something to do with the unit deliberately splashing water against the fan blades to improve its efficiency (read about it towards the back of the manual). I’ll take the total silence for a slightly less efficient unit. It gets extraordinarily cold! so I seldom set it below 70. It did freeze up on me once during heavy humidity last year when I had it set to 64. . Nice remote. Don’t forget to snap the vents down and you’ll increase the cooling by at least 50%. Default setting is eco which turns off too much so I keep it on “Cool” and “Quiet” dual modes.

Definitely quiet but pull the drain plug!
I've had this AC for about 3 weeks now and all I can say is that it actually delivers on the fact that it's quiet. I've tried to get the U shaped AC from that "other" brand twice and each of those two units made annoying noises as if something were broken within. This AC only has water splashing noises and maybe some slight rattling. Yes I know rattling is not what you want but the door of the filter might rattle so I suggest leaving the tape on it if it does. Other than that, the water splashing is from water being thrown at the condenser I believe which aids in efficient cooling. TRUST ME, just take off the drain plug at the bottom of the unit so that the water drains out instead(Its shown in the manual) . It did not impact my cooling whatsoever and now my unit is incredibly quiet.I mainly got this unit so that I wouldn't need to turn up the volume while watching movies and such. So far all the regular people that visit for movie night have asked me if the AC was on or not. That's a huge win in my book so I can without a doubt recommend this AC unit.I mainly keep it on e save with "quiet" as the fan speed. The room it's in is a 12 x 11 room and it cools it down in ~15 minutes. The weather here is usually in the 80s and sometimes 90s. On a side note, I have a projector in this room as well so that's also pumping out a bit of heat too. This AC handles it no problem. Hopefully it lasts for years to come.

Almost perfect
I purchased this unit because I needed a small window AC that wouldn't drown out my TV. I've owned several window and portable units over many years, and this one is the very, very quiet compared to those. I would say that on the "quiet" setting, it is not as loud as a table fan on low. After using it a couple of weeks, I noticed that occasionally it will be very loud when it starts, but within a few seconds it will return to being very quiet. Be sure to check the dimensions closely as it is a bit larger than other units of similar BTU ratings.

Not worth the extra $$$
I thought paying more would get something better. Not the case for this brand/AC. First of all, the remote control was missing from the original box.The shipping box wasn't damage. Not sure how/why they didin't pack the remote. Contacted Haier support via email. A few days later they simply told me to contact Amazon. Amazon offered me $40. I took it and orderd the original Haier remote for $43 with tax.The AC runs ok and not super laud nor super quiet. It was installed in July 2017. Six months later, there is rusty spot on the outside already. Another thing, the "dehumidfy" function is completely NOT working. We used this function this winter. I have AcuRite humidity meter in all the rooms. The humidity level actually rises in the bedroom! I would avoid any products from this company from now on, so should you.
