4" Sewer Relief Plug

This 4” clean out relief cap is easy to install and a great way to help prevent sewer line backups from backing up into the house. The sewer line trap in my yard broke and was replaced with a regular clean out and capped with a threaded plug. I felt uneasy with it being sealed rather than the vented mushroom cap that was previously there. That vented mushroom cap saved my house several times as the sewer water backed up into my yard through the vented cap instead of going inside my house. This relief cap was the perfect solution to close off the new clean out but still offer any backed up sewer water a way to escape. It fit perfectly and was easy to hand tighten onto the 4” threads.

Not an exciting product, but a very useful product! I have two of these 4" pop-up diverters installed at my septic cleanout.For the past 3 years, I was oblivious to this little products "trap door." I had thought these were just fixed PVC plugs for the cleanout. It wasn't until I got a little to aggressive with the lawn mower, and my high-lift mulching blades pulled sufficient vacuum and lifted one of the poppers up into the destruction zone of my Oregano G6 Gator blades did destruction occur. It was at this moment I realized the genius design of this product.It is a spring loaded popper, that prevents intrusion of water, debris, and bugs, but if you have a sewer or septic backup, so long as the cleanout cap is installed as the lowest drain in the system, raw sewage water will be diverted outside at the cleanout and not backup into the home!Anyway this was a direct replacement for my grievance, minus a slight color difference. My existing caps were green (maybe painted by builder/installer?), but this one was grey, no big deal! We are back in working order again.I added more soil in this area and reseeded as evident in the attached photo to help eliminate future close cuts!

This is a good replacement for the one my lawnmower ate. It fits as designed.

Works excellent screws right into a 4" clean-out. I ordered 4 and installed 2 in my yard just prior to the septic tank, my thought is if either one has a failure they are still below slab level. The only thing to keep in mind is that they work by spring pressure not their mass weight. So, they are not MOWER PROOF!!! First time I mowed after installing them both, the first one I mowed directly over shot the popper out of the deck 20' away. I assume the spring will get sucked out next tank cleaning. After that I made sure to just let the edge of the ZTR mower deck work the edge of the popper and that was fine. Maybe a push mower would be okay but mine is a JD 420 with triple blades and I did have the height set fairly high at about 75% but thankfully for the price. I purchased 4 because I will never have a home without these installed. BTW, they are a great company for fast shipping and they do not charge much more for ordering more so treat your family and friends to never having to shovel goo out of their basement again!!!

These are great. Prevents sewer line blockages occurring outside your house from ruining your furnishings inside your house. Won't do anything for blockages under your house, unfortunately. We have had one on of these sewer relief valves our front yard sewer line clean-out for around 20 years. A few weeks ago our downstairs toilet began to gurgle as our clothes washer was dumping a ton of water into our sewer line. I looked out the front window and saw a flood of water coming out of the sewer relief valve that is installed on our sewer line clean-out. What a great sight that was...what a relief (pun not intended)...all that water could have been dumped in our powder room and would have migrated into a closet and into our carpeted downstairs area. This is the cheapest form of sewer back-up flood insurance one can have. I ordered this one so I could install a second one of these on our second sewer clean-out...two is better than one. A word of caution...the sewer relief valve measures 4.5" in diameter, to match the opening of the sewer clean-out, but is ordered as a 4", as you can see from the amazon.com description. If you order a 4" and you receive one that is 3.5" in diameter, you were shipped the wrong one. A second word of caution...it is common for homeowners to unscrew the cap on their sewer line clean-out and just set it back in the opening without securing it by screwing it in. This does basically the same thing as a sewer relief valve. When the water backs up it pushes the cap off the sewer clean-out opening and the water runs freely out. Problem is, animals and people knock the caps off the clean-out hole and the hole remains open, accepting leaves and dirt and anything else that can get into the hole, including small animals and snakes. The trash and animals and snakes that can get in the opening can cause a sewer line backup and a large plumbing bill...plus imagine raising the toilet lid and seeing a snake looking back at you. This sewer relief valve has a spring that closes it after backed-up water has forced itself out. Well worth the cost. Shipping one costs same as shipping 4. Buy some extras...give them as Christmas presents to your neighbors...a gift that keeps on giving.

Very easy to install, & replacing the old one was easy!

Threaded neatly onto my 4 inch PBC septic clean out. Others who reviewed this product mentioned theirs froze shut during winter. I never had that problem. I sprayed it with silicone spray, and experienced -17° temperatures. When the sewer backed up the valve opened right up and prevented the sewer from backing up into my home.

I wish I would have had this a long time ago.
