I bought this when my kids started to show more interest in learning chess. We had a small set with light plastic pieces, but I wanted something we could take on the road to basketball tournaments.Pros: Heavy, substantial pieces. Board that is perfect size and rolls up nicely to fit in the bag.Cons: Some of the pieces (specifically the queens) are quite sharp and may not be a good fit for younger players. The pieces don't all fit in the carrying bag, so we have to carry those separately.

They are not heavily weighted, which was a disappointment. The weights rattle in some of the pieces. And I don't like how thick the rooks are. But it's a cheap set that gets the job done. As for them being House of Staunton, they absolutely are not.

This is a great gift for traveling, pieces are very well designed and detailed. My only complaint is the bag does not carry your pieces.

Not the top of the line... but absolutely THE standard. Perfect for those bringing equipment for a pickup game of chess played outdoors. Windproof and the finish is quality. Fitting everything back in can be tricky but it is easily achievable.

Chessmen, board, and quiver-carrier arrived in flawless condition. No defects in manufacture. Sufficiently weighted men. No loose felts, or uneven bottoms due to improperly inserted weights. Very nicely and realistically printed mahogany board. So nicely done it is easily forgotten that it is made of a thin mousepad material and not out of actual wood. The quiver is made from a much stouter material than I had anticipated, which was a pleasant discovery to make. Generally, I am not a fan of sets with white chessmen, preferring natural color instead, but House of Staunton has used a very pleasing shade of white in the production of this set, which is not at all starkly glaring when looked upon.I am much more pleased with the overall quality of this set than I had imagined that I would be and consider it money well spent to have purchased it. I can imagine buying several more copies of it for presents as the Holidays approach, and would recommend it to your purchase if you would just like a decent reasonably priced set to enjoy using in your home, park, club, or school.
