I’ve been drinking more dark roasted coffee recently as I prefer it as a morning coffee. I find there’s a lot of variation In different brand’s dark roasts though. Some are just way over roasted and taste dirty and bitter but this one is perfectly balanced. It’s got a lovely sweet dark chocolate flavour and just the right amount of bitterness you want from a dark roast. I think if I tried really hard I could get the ‘rich figs in syrup’ they have in the tasting note too. Not that I eat many rich figs in syrup! Worked really well in my filter machine and cafetière. In fact I would go so far to say this is my ultimate cafetière coffee. Plus I love Change Please’s mission. Love that buying this coffee is helping to combat homelessness. Will definitely be switching my daily morning cup to this.

This rich ground coffee from Change Please helps a little to support the homeless where 100% of profits go towards helping to change lives for the better. I enjoy a coffee in the morning or when working as much as the next person and hate spending unnecessarily on takeaway coffees that don’t hit the spot so this rich flavoured blend is ideal for cafetière or pour-over brewing and provides a full flavoured quality cup that hits that spot.This makes for a really pleasant and enjoyable cup of coffee. that's not too overpowering without bitterness. First thing if note is that I love the packaging, very attractive without being garish.On it I read about how this coffee is produced by a company where all profits go towards employing the homeless 👍It's also Rainforest Alliance Certified 🌳When opened the first scent I noticed was dark chocolate with a hint of sweetness.For such a dark coffee I didn't pick up any smoky notes, which for me is a good thing.I brewed the coffee in my trusty Melitta percolator and the coffee was dark and intense.Once again, dark chocolate came to the fore along with some nuttiness and rich fruit like dates.For such a dark coffee it's surprisingly smooth and dangerously easy to drink 😲Adding milk masks the fruity note but its still a lovely cup of coffee.Yes it's expensive, but for such a good coffee, and such a good cause I think its worth it.I hope you find my review helpful

The variety I received for review was Bold Soul, strength 5. I usually buy strength 3 or 4, as 5 is sometimes too acrid. This one isn’t, and it deserves its description of “rich and dark” – it is strong but very smooth. I could taste the claimed note of dark chocolate (the coffee went very well with my wife’s excellent chocolate sponge), but not the figs. It is ideal for a cafetiere. (BTW drunk white, with one brown sugar.)It is slightly on the expensive side, but one can’t object much when the profits are going to the homeless. (It’s Rainforest Alliance Certified too.) Change Please has a chain of cafes in London and elsewhere, selling their products including coffee.

Over the last 2 years I've worked my way through so many different coffee brands both major and minor. I like a very strong coffee that tastes of COFFEE not umpteen weird addtitves that spoil it. I have settled on 2 brands as a go to but this one (Bold Soul) is probably the best I've ever tasted. Exactly as described there's a dark chocolate spike with the accompanying sweet bitterness you'd expect with that, there's also the slight fruitiness of "Figs in syrup" but neither of those overpower what is for me the perfect coffee flavour, they just make seem like a more complex and richer coffee. It's dark and probably stronger than a typical 5 rated strength in my opinion. It actually made me go "Mmm" which is a change from "meh". It's so deliciously rich I've fallen in love with it after only 2 cups. I git a very full bodies strong cup using a pour over filter and it brewed beautifully, nothing dry or powery about the bland. But here's the crunch, it's twice the price of my everyday brands and although I would love this to be my new regular it's pricing itself out of the market for me. But considering the astonishing quality of it there is no way I can go without it entirely and considering that it helps with a good cause I'm going to add it to my rota and get it for 1/3 of my purchases. I mean, total bravo to the brand it was an absolute treat to try this and for it to be so good, I honestly did not expect to randomly find a new number 1 product.
