Panama Gloria Estate SHB Coffee (2kg)

How disappointing…I was in Panama earlier this year, and bought several packets of coffee from Kotowa Coffee. All absolutely delicious, and certainly among some of the best I have ever tasted. I was so excited to find this online, and was hoping to have found a supply of my new favorite coffee… Coffee so good that it converted me to whole bean coffee (I even bought a grinder from Amazon specially)... Sadly this is not even close.Firstly (and this is not really a complaint as it IS clearly listed) an 8oz pack is not the same size as a pack that you would buy in the stores (those are 12oz) which was my first disappointment. So, if comparing like to like, a regular sized pack of this coffee would cost $15 - worth bearing in mind.That aside, secondly, this is NOT "Kotowa" coffee. The packs I received were NOT as pictured, and are some other brand of Panama (supposedly) coffee. Ok, maybe it's the same coffee in a different pack? Nope - I tasted it with an open mind, and it is NOT EVEN CLOSE. Nothing like the real deal at all. Weak and watery when ground and brewed using the same a amounts in the same machine. This is sub supermarket level coffee. CERTAINLY not worth ordering. A huge disappointment. Maybe it's old? Someone's sharpied over some writing at the top of the pack so perhaps it's out of date… Also, the vacuum seal on the packs isn't working (if you squeeze the pack air comes out then it re inflates) so I guess it could just be stale…Either way, I wouldn't waste my time again. I feel like I've been ripped off and send a sub standard rip off.I know I may sound pedantic (and I do hate reading reviews by people who are nit picking) but honestly I was just so gutted to not be able to enjoy the product I was expecting to receive. If I hand't still had a little of the REAL Kotowa coffee on hand I'd have doubted my taste buds, but I was able to compare… Not good.Two stars because it IS coffee, and it was delivered in a timely manner, but that's about it.

I was surprised after ordering 5 pounds that the coffee came in 1 pound bags. I like the idea as the coffee stays fresher longer being sealed. This is a mellow coffee with a great flavor. The moment you grind it you can smell the wonderful aroma. We are very happy with this coffee. It is absolutely A grade coffee and comparable to the best coffees of the world.

Got if for a Breville espresso machine. Reasonably priced, freshly roasted and a world of flavors. Lavazza and Illy tasted pretty bland after this one. The biggest challenge buying online is the roast date, if it is more than 6 weeks after roasting, it deteriorates quickly after opening and I cannot get the pressure right.

Panama coffee is a great coffee.

The first thing I noticed about this coffee was the aroma when I opened the bag. Full of rich coffee aroma without overpowering your senses. When tasting this coffee the first thing I noticed is how rich it is yet it doesn't have any harsh bitterness like some coffees do. From the tip of my tongue to the back the full flavor is there. A good strong coffee, yet smooth is what I like and this one is just that. Makes a good morning coffee to start your day.

I haven't tasted this coffee but just claiming that a 92 point review in 2012 is deceptive. Reviews are only as good as this years crop. Unless this coffee is over 2 years old. Just saying...
