Voskhod Rocket 6J1P-EV / 6ZH1P-EV, Matched Pair

The TLDR version: This made a huge impact on the sound over the GE 5654 tubes from Riverstone and the stock Chineese ones. Improved highs and lows, more definition and details. Amazing value for the improvement. The long version- If you are reading tube reviews, there's not much to explain, so I'll go to the details. I am driving a pair of Sony SSCS5 from an Aiyima A07, connected to a cheap Succa tube headphone/preamp conected to a Fiio BTRk3 streaming from my phone. I originally was driving the Sonys with the A07 and although pretty good, it was nothing to write about. Tinkering around I decided to connect a few months ago the Succa headphone amp as a preamp, and on the way also connect the Fiio unit. Holy lord that made a difference and loved it so much I even built an eclosure as if it was all part of an integrated system. I even started OpAmp rolling to see if I could squeeze more out of the system, but honestly OpAmps did't gave me much in return. Setteled on the Todiys LM4572NA, since it gave me a bit more low end. But honestly, these are not a huge improvemnt. I decided to keep the system as it was and just enjoy it. Of course, the itch started again and decided to give this tubes a try not expecting a lot of change... WRONG. The improvement so far has been miles from anything I was expecting. Everything opened up. Separation of instruments is incredible in comparison to the GE tubes, and both highs and lows were taken to another level. The GE 5654 are good. They initially improved the bass and gave it a really plesant rounded sound the music. I guess it's that "tubey" sound people always refer to. Honestly, I really like them and was perfectly fine with them. But these Voskhod tubes not just improved the bass, it gave the music balls. Classical music now has that live grunt, basses, horns, the percussion seccion, they all now sound authorative and yet some how more defined/less vailed. Vocals that were hard to hear are now crystal clear and you can hear every single instrument. I have to admit is less warm that the GE tubes, but not in a bad way. The only issue I had a first was that the bass felt a bit too much and that the highs were a bit more piercing than before. Tinkering around I learned that now my speakers need to be about a foot extra away from the wall, and that the listening volume needed to come down a bit, since it is not nessesary to crank the music to hear detail. Pretty amaizing testament for a $40 product. I can only speak for my equipment and my set up, but these have been the single greatest improvent I have noticed in my music after the speakers. Full marks!

I've tried a pair of the GE JAN 5654W (WARM, great bass, good mids, rolled off highs, OK imaging; classic tubey sound if maybe overly tubey) and a pair of Mullard 8100 "CV4010 aka 6AK5 aka 5654" tubes circa 1960s vintage (less warm, good neutral bass, excellent mids & highs and excellent imaging) and now these Voskhod 6J1P-EV. These Voskhods are very close to neutral, slightly toward the warm side, but sweet baby jesus the holographic imaging these things have... They have excellent bass, mids and (for a tube) almost sparkly highs. These are the tubes I run 90% of the time. All around they're just EXCELLENT and easily the best 6J1P tube I have so far. I read the vintage new-old-stock Voskhod 6J1P-EVs are even better, and I have a pair of circa 1964 examples on their way to me from Russia via Etsy. Very excited to hear them. For reference, I am listening to these tubes in a modified/upgraded Little Dot 1+ hybrid solid state/tube headphone amplifier with a Burson V5i-D opamp swapped in. I'm using a $1000 pair of Beyerdynamic T1 headphones (which are slightly cooler than neutral with VERY analytical highs) -- which is to say the amplifier itself and the headphones are fairly neutral and there's not much wire or any other variables between the tubes and my headphones to color the sound. SO with this setup I can DISTINCTLY hear the differences between tubes, where as with a tube preamp going to a hifi system, there will be more variables that can influence sound signature sometimes dramatically, which can obfuscate the tubes sound signature. These Voskhod 6J1P-EV tubes are criminally good for the price. If I had to change any one thing about them, I would prefer if the highs were a tiiiiny bit subdued. Like I want to keep the detail, but perhaps a little less sparkle and grain. My Beyerdynamic T1s can really belt out the treble - That said, this is only a minor minor complaint from a very picky person. I'm hoping the 1960s-era versions will give the perfection I desire. YOU WILL BE HAPPY WITH THESE TUBES, PERIOD. Also, shout out to the Little Dot 1+. If you have any desire in a premium, dare-i-say "audiophile" headphone experience, get one of these bad mamma jammas and stick these Voskhod tubes in it. Pair with some Beyerdynamic or Sennheiser headphones and prepare to scoop your jaw off the floor. It's THAT good.

For anyone reading this review, If you have found your way here because you are starting to "Tube Roll" or are interested in a fairly basic review of these tubes as compared to the ones that came in your "Fosi Audio/Little Bear/Little Dot, whatever..lol Read on.... I myself am new to the world of "Tube Rolling" or simply swapping tubes to attain a different sound. I have been into music and the music business my whole life, but this was new to me as well, and very confusing.. Can i use these tubes in here, will this work in that, there is no really good place to turn other than reading as many forums as you can and getting to understand, what tube is called what y what company and country. That being said, on to these particular tubes and what they did for me. As a comparison i the ones from GE that almost every reviewer underneath any of those aforementioned products says to buy immediately and they are not incorrect they are a definite upgrade from the "Stock Tubes". These Voshkod Tubes however take you a few steps farther up the sonic ladder. Now without getting into terms like... "The warm side of neutral" Or "These tubes are a bit forward" you know all those fancy phrases "audiophiles like to use and Impress you with, lets just say this. THESE TUBES ROCK! What do i mean by that? In terms of gain the first thing I noticed after warmup is that I had to turn the volume down quite a bit from what I usually listen to it at. They do have a fairly sharp high end..."Pssst...that means Treble" LOL So you are likely to hear that, but I actually like being able to hear the hi-hat in a song, so thats just me i guess. The Bass...lol "I mean the low end extension" is very good, I have no complaints about it it's no too much it's not too little "for me" its just right. And the midrange is very good, nice and clear. So to wrap things up without bashing Real Audiophiles anymore than I have to, if your looking to bump your little tube buffer/preamp up to another level than what it came with, the Voshkod are absolutely a solid choice, in fact I would go as far to say that in the situation these are used in I think they would check all the boxes for most people. In closing let me say That Tonal Tubes seems to be a fantastic seller with ahead of time shipping and a quality product, I will def. buy from them again. In fact, I will be typing an email to them this afternoon Thanking them for being on amazon and for selling this great product, and I will be asking for their advice on my next Tube Purchase. I just got these tonight. I had two pairs on order (I have an Ayima amp and phono preamp). I plan to give them the amp to my daughter for her dorm in September as I am getting the Infi Class AB amp this week (via Amazon of course). So, Prime managed to get one pair delivered tonight - and I was excited - so I plugged the pair into the Ayima amp which has BT 5.0. I was replacing a pair of Riverstone 5654W tubes - which were pretty solid. They were military grade replacements for the stock GJ1 Chinese made tubes which are inferior tubes. The matched pair worked immediately in the Ayima amp - 7 pin socket and the immediate LED blue lights. I was running them through a pair of Bowers and Wilkins bookshelf speakers. Put on Spotify on my IPhone and paired it on BT. Went and got to the Doors "American Prayer" and was impressed with the clean, quiet and sheer sound. Then played some Enya "Caribbean Blue" to test the soundstage. I could feel the 3D. Finally, tried some Led Zeppelin III - to check out the sound separation. The bass and drums came out clear and defined. I just have to say WOW. These are a great upgrade to most hybrid amps. If you have a stock Chinese GJ1 tube it's a no brainer. If you have a 5654 tube - and feel frustrated like I did by the low volume and small soundstage - it's a no brainer. I've recently gotten into tube roll's and yes, there are big differences between US, Chinese and Russian tubes. These are a bargain.

These tubes are high quality and sound great! I think a lot of people will like these. I ran them in for 24hrs before making an assessment. That being said the sound is more open and clear than the JAN GE tubes and Mullards. I think they lack the "tubey" sound. So I just wanted to put that out there. Perhaps you will like these perhaps you will prefer the warmer sounding GE or Mullard tubes. I think I prefer the Mullards and GE tubes more. Glad to have these anyhow.

Very dynamic, it made my Jan 5654 tubes sound flat in comparison. Bass, deep tones are brought forward slightly and their sound stage is most certainly an improvement. Definitely worth adding to your collection!! These tubes are military versions too, they'll last longer. They did take some time to break in, but it was worth the bit of time it took. Update 6/22/25: I've done a fair amount of tube rolling since I acquired these tubes. I always come back to these tubes and have found that there is no better tube for this socket. I have a rare set of vintage Mullard M8100 blue shields made in France to vintage 1950s GE tubes(they are pretty good.) The Mullars come close, rolling off the sub bass, and they sparkle up top in the treble, mids aren't quite as lush, a bit recessed. They would be good for a different set of speakers to mach them to. These Voshkod Rockets are my end game tube- they won't fully mature until 100+ hours of listening. Mids are lush, vocals are clear, treble rolls at the top but is still very present- You can listen to music on these tubes all day long, and you'll not get fatigue. Deep bass, not too tight-not sloppy either. The sound stage is wide, secondary harmonics-Beautiful.

Having bought a few sets of these I can tell you that they are loosely matched but they really do very in their output from set to set. It's like this particular vendor is matching literally every tube they've got and they're selling every tube they've got even the ones that are kind of out of range for audio use. So it really is kind of a crap shoot in order to get a good set. So what I did was I ordered three sets and all three were very very different from each other even though they were matched pairs. So I simply use them when I'm playing different things. They all have a good sound but they aren't good for general use. Once burned in they do warm up nicely and I could definitely notice the difference between sets. So it's a little risky to get these even though they're decent tubes they may not be exactly what you want, or it might be exactly what you're looking for if you end up with a golden pair. You just never know. In other words the quality control doesn't seem to be very good beyond making sure that you're getting it fairly matched but not perfectly matched always set. Sorry for being so wordy I'm just trying to explain this.

Equipment: Topping E30II DAC/xDuoo MH-02 Hybrid Tube Amp/Arya Stealth (V3) I have been on a journey to find the right equipment/settings to mature my Aryas into the sound profile that is right for me. My headphones are great, but I have been looking for a slightly warmer bass and a wider/surrounding soundstage. I have tried the Schiit Vali 3 hybrid tube amp and stock tubes, but the sound was still a little too sanitary for my liking. Then, I moved to the xDuoo MH-02 hybrid tube amp and tried the GE JAN 5654W tubes and these Rocket tubes. With my headphones, the GE tubes were great and actually had a more "tubey" sound signature compared to the Rocket. However, I swapped to the Rocket and immediately noticed a colored yet clean sound signature, particularly in the vocal mids and the bass region. The sound stage opened up vertically, and I could exist in a more 3D music environment. These tubes are named after the Russian satellite rocket for a reason.

These tubes are replacing my JAN5654 tubes. The Voskhod definitely sound more livelier, more dynamic yet smoother in the treble. It eliminates more brightness than the JAN5654. Also, the Voskhod tubes sound much more three dimensional and spacious — or holographic. The only thing better about the JAN5654 is that the bass is more prominent and overall the JAN tubes are warmer and fuller in the low frequencies. But the Voskhod tubes are warmer in the high frequencies which matters most to me. Also, I’ll note that the timbre of voices sound more pleasant, natural and full with the Voskhod. Where as they were a touch sharp and thin with the JAN tubes. Wonderful sound.

巷で評判が良いので少々高かったけど購入してみました。玉転がしした直後なのに、充実した中低音。これにはビックリしました。高音も負けず劣らず素直に伸びてます。エージングが進んで今後どう言う音質なるか楽しみです。因みに前付けてたのは、同じAmazonで購入した¥2000台の型番が分からないものです。

Dropped them into my Fosi T20 powering AKG K702s. The results are stunning. Bass opened right up in a controlled, clean fashion, and highs are restrained *just* enough to not be exhausting, mostly in the 4-8kHz region (reducing sibilance). Mids are effortless and fluid. System of a Down - Toxicity sounds astonishing. *edit* you know it's good when you have a hard time advancing through your test tracks because you just need to hear it to completion. Seriously.. I've built a First Watt F1 amplifier, owned a Lavry DA10, AKG K1000, Grado SR-325i, ER4s.. these tubes are astonishing and this setup has been more fun than I've had in a long time.

Using the tubes with a Douk preamp and two Dayton mono block amplifiers. The og tubes were alright, but tried a GE equivalent (too bright even after many hours on them). Right out of the box these are a massive improvement, very well balanced tonal output. Can't wait till they get some hours on them. Drivers, Klipsh Heresy 2s, Energy 22.1's and Energy XL26's. Well worth the money, and came way quicker the indicated. But these!
