I chose this footwear because my short toes + wide feet + high arches = toes that are vulnerable when over-extended.While pivoting during kicks, my skin would literally split (and bleed) where the toes met the soles of my feet.This footwear maintains a barefoot feel to contact with the floor, while protecting my toes at the stress point. The padding on the instep and on top of the foot, while of secondary consideration when purchasing, has turned out to be an added bonus.
