Good information.

I just got my 1st heifer. In preparation for her arrival, I got this book. I knew nothing about cattle. I didn’t even know what a cow vs steer was. This books was a HUGE help for me. I learned so much. It’s an easy ready and full of useful information, especially for a newbie like me.

This book as easy to read and covers the basics for a first time owner of beef cattle! This was INCREDIBLY helpful with wrapping my head around what I need and how I need to prep my farm for a small heard of beef cattle! I will be reading this again a few times to make sure I didn’t miss anything.

Good for beginners

I find Ann Hansen's book very helpful and different from other books. Her attitude towards cattle and how to handle them has worked very well for me.Her description of fencing, things to look for in purchasing cattle and many other small points have been very useful. The idea that you don't need to chase cattle all over a pasture but get them to come to you is a subtle but very important part of enjoying raising cattle. It is probably not for long-time cattle owners but Hansen's book is in my opinion just right for someone getting a few cattle for the first time. I have a very different opinion of the book from the other reviewer and that's why I am writing this. I have read quite a few other cattle books before starting and this offered the best beginners advice. A good book to go with it is "Salad Bar Beef" but Salatin's book is much more philosophical where Hansen's is practical. They go well together, in my opinion.

I read this book just for educational purposes. I live in Texas and we love our beef cattle out here. If cattle come up in a conversation, I didn't want to just stand there and look stupid.So far what I have learned from this book has kept me a float when talking with people the few times cattle came up. Also my neighbor behind me owns a lot of cattle, so I was just interested.

Good quality very informative

Very small and elementary. Written more for pre-schoolers.
