“Phooey!” said the Professor, “double phooey, with cheese and tartar sauce!”
Johnny Dixon is the centerpiece in this tale of revenge against his Grandfather. A grudge many years in the making, Johnny is kidnapped by a mad scientist and part time wizard. This nefarious villain has an obsession with eyes, in particular he wants Johnny’s. It’s up to the Professor and Fergie to rescue poor Johnny from the clutches of this scalpel wielding maniac. The only flaw in this otherwise exciting book, is that the Professor once again suffers from short-term memory loss. When Johnny mentions odd occurrences the Professor quickly dismisses them…as though they haven’t been dealing with supernatural events this entire time. Johnny is not the boy who cried ‘wolf.’

This is a favorite
One of my favorite Johnny Dixon stories involving an evil sorcerer who creates an "infernal machine" to win a baseball contest, which Dixon inadvertently reactivates!

One of John Bellairs best books. Just when you think all the villians are all wrapped up, you are in for another surprise. I really like most all of John Bellairs/Brad Strickland books. Great fun and takes you back to a simple times of the 50's.

Loved it since I was a child
A librarian recommended this to me when I was a little girl. Buy it. You'll like it. The ending and plot were superb. Ifyou are debating buying this book I would have to say buy it. It's a children's book.

My 10yrs old son loved it
My 10yr old son loved this book and is now reading other books by John Bellairs. He said the story line was great and captured his attention - which is sometimes hard to do.
