No, I wouldn't think that would work. It is not that sturdy or, frankly, big enough for the mattress.

Q: Where does the button go?

Honestly, I never found where it was supposed to go. I just put it under the floor fabric of the tent for my 4 year old to push. After about a day he just held it and pushed the button when he wanted the sound.
