It protects the keyboard from dust settling between the keys, and, unlike a vinyl cover which when not in use can be bulky, this fabric model folds up into a compact size for storage.With my keyboard’s plastic music holder removed the entire top and sides of the keyboard are covered. If the music holder is left in place the cover can rest against the front edge where it attaches to the keyboard so three sides and the top completely covered, and the back partially protected.
