The Great Gatsby

Great Read
This was my second time through this novella, and I still find it a poetic masterpiece of tight storytelling. I never was forced to read this in school, so my admiration is genuine.

Not quit as good as Anthony Heald
Adrian Wilson was my first choice for a reader, after sampling several recordings. He reads Fitzgerald's remarkable language with detailed, nuanced care. But I found Anthony Heald's recording even better. He not only captures the language beautifully, he paces his reading - artfully speeding up and slowing down to convey the rich poetry of the novel. And with a slightly southern, Midwest accent, he captures the character of NIck perfectly. Get the Anthony Heald version and enjoy!

Good read
Enough has been written about him book, but for my stance I'm just embarrassed it took me this long to read it.

This Kindle version has horrible annotations and distracting underlining and boldface
That was a waste of 99 cents. The annotating seems to have been done by a teenager. It is quite distracting and in the way of reading the natural flow of the book. Wth is this?!!

Its a famous book
I decided to try this book because its famous. I did read the whole thing. Some parts are interesting but, on the whole, it is just fluff. Neither exciting nor boring. It felt famous for being famous.

Terrible annotations
Reiterating what others have said- this version is terrible because of the annotations, underlining, etc.

Avoid this Kindle version, it's not the actual novel.
The rating is for this particular Kindle version, not The Great Gatsby as a novel. This version has poor annotations, bold text, underlining, and is clearly NOT the actual novel. It's unreadably distracting. Avoid it.

Brutally overrated
This was one of those classics that I reckoned one should have read. You know how it is.The book feels dead. In spite of a subject matter that per se is extremely emotional, I didn't feel a thing. It just feels like... characters say things and do things, and then it's over. Luckily, it's not too long.
