American Crew Men's Hair Defining Paste (OLD VERSION), Medium Hold Hair Gel with Low Shine, 3 Oz (Pack of 1)

I use this to style my quiff hair. I towel dry, then apply this, then use the blow dryer. After my hair is dry and set, I use a basic hair spray to set in place. This is the best that I know of to define my hair and get volume. Coupled with a good hair blow dryer, this is the best. I have thin hair and yet this gets just the right lift, while not looking wet. It looks natural. It isn't the strongest, it isn't wax, and does not hold super firm. It keeps your hair fairly natural, and even running your hand through your hair feels good. If there's any criticism I have, it's that you have to work the paste into your hand until you can barely see it. Then put it in your hair. Failure to do this may leave white streaks in your hair. Oh, and, availability for this has been spotty as of late. Don't wait too long to pull the trigger on this if it's in stock.

I don't like the current pricing, but the product is very good.

A bit of context: I have what is more or less an undercut - pretty short on the sides (size 1 or under clipper usually) and a bit longer on top (1-1.5"). I usually cut my own hair or have a friend cut it for me so I'm not sure on specifics. This product is exactly as it claims - low shine, medium hold. It's very workable even throughout the day which I appreciate a lot. Doesn't make my hair look greasy, and it feels as good as you can hope hair with product in it will feel. The smell is incredible, too! I haven't used it for awhile as I've since adopted nopoo and had no need for it, but whenever I do end up washing my hair I'll usually use this for about a week after until the oils in my hair build back up. I almost miss having my hair smell so wonderfully. Great product, will absolutely use and recommend to all friends.

I blow dry my hair bone dry, and then use the defining paste (matte, and holds good with just a tiny spritz of hairspray). I also have some left over forming cream, and it works really well too, just gives the hair a shinier look. For me, that shinier look is nice if I'm going to a wedding, or dressing up...that sort of thing. I blowdry the hair in the front up, blow dry the rest totally dry, put some defining paste in my palm, rub my hands together vigorously and warm it up, and then work it into my hair. I love the way the defining paste smells, matte looks nice, and it's super easy to get that messy but controlled look. I have slightly wavy hair, not stick straight or curly. I get it cut pretty short (an inch or so), and then let it grow out to about two inches before I get it cut. That's about 2 months of growth, and this product works good the entire time. Experiment and have fun, but I personally think the Defining Paste is awesome for matte, and forming cream if you want a little bit of shine (but it's harder to work into your bone dry hair, and doesn't smell as good).

Great stuff if you ride and wear a motorcycle helmet, no frizz, easy to style back after helmet removal, no helmet hair!

I have been using Defining Paste since high school and it seems like it gets cheaper and cheaper every time I go to buy more. Many times due to the recommendation of a barber or friend I have tried other brands as well as other types of Crew, my hair is a dynamic entity that can be tamed by no amount of product, each day a little different than the last. Monday pomade works best, Tuesday its Fiber, Wednesday... WHO KNOWS!? Day in and day out regardless of the venue or event I am attending Crew Defining Paste is my go to option. Regardless of where I travel in or out of the country you will not find me without a puck full of the Paste. While I still keep another brand on hand just to see if a challenger can dethrone the king, Defining Paste is the product I would recommend to anyone 10/10 times. Very easy to work into moist but not wet hair. Once it settles you can run your fingers through it all day without issue and it typically holds in place fairly well. This allows me the hairstyle that I am looking for which is clean, but not too flashy. Smell good too.

My fiancé has been using this product for nearly a decade now and he swears by it. Here’s why: PROS: - Not Greasy or “Wet” looking - Not Tacky or Sticky - Perfectly texturized to shape and move hair as desired without it drying up or witholding its shape. - ALSO….The baby otters LOVED playing with his hair haha so that’s a PLUS! CONS: - A little pricier depending on what you’re used to, but it is worth it - Wish they made more sizes because this product is AMAZING!

Got it and it was apparently old. I have been using this for years and this one had a skin on it- like pudding. Brushed my finger to take some and none came out. Returned. I think I will be going to ulta for my defining paste

Habe die Paste jetzt schon länger im Einsatz und bin echt zufrieden. Wer keinen Bock auf diesen steinharten Beton-Look hat, ist hier genau richtig. Das Zeug gibt ordentlich Struktur und mittleren Halt, aber die Haare bleiben den ganzen Tag über flexibel. Man kann also auch mittags mal locker durch die Haare gehen und alles sitzt danach immer noch gut. Es glänzt auch fast gar nicht – die Haare sehen einfach ganz normal und gepflegt aus, nicht fettig oder nass. Lässt sich super einfach in den Händen verreiben, klumpt nicht und geht abends beim Duschen ohne Probleme direkt wieder raus. Riecht außerdem gewohnt gut nach American Crew. Für mich das perfekte Produkt für den Alltag. Kaufe ich definitiv wieder!

Great for short hair. Don't know about others but it works really well on my hair. I always keep my hair short so this product works like magic on me. Better than many other products that I've used in the past. I've been using this everyday since I got it to give my hair a shape. But you should know to put the right amount as applying too much can make your hair feel weighted down or maybe even more oily. Generally a pea sized amount is perfect for me. Will be buying more of this stuff in the future and I would recommend this stuff to anyone who has short and coarse hair.
