The compass works well, but I would not trust it to last if dropped hard of submersed in water. The flashlight is good, but a AA battery fints loose inside it so at first I thought it took CR123a batteries... it does not. Also, the set does not come with directions so make sure you know how to use everything or look it up on youtube. Knife, pen, and whistle are pretty good quality, but what I am most excited about is the fire starting, ferro rod. Once you get the coating off, it works like a champ.
