Daniel (Westminster Bible Companion)

Definitely worth the read
Seow's insights are really strong, and he brings a scholarly approach to the historical context of Daniel. Many people understand Daniel as speaking to God's people during the time from Desolation to Desolation (605 to 164); others attempt to bring a dispensational pre-millennialist eschatology into their interpretation. Likewise, many folks understand Daniel as part of the Wisdom literature of the Old Testament, while others read Daniel as a book of Old Testament Prophecy. But what I found unique about this book was that whatever your point of view I, this book will add a lot to your study of Daniel. Whether you agree or disagree with some of his major assumptions, his commentary on Daniel is worth the read. Now, I might not recommend this book to the casual reader of Daniel. But anyone serious about their study of Daniel - even those without a theological education - will benefit from this book.

Exploring Daniel
Daniel is a difficult book to get a hold of. This is a very helpful introduction and overview. It's accessible and straightforward. Great for preachers who might delve into it. Remember that Daniel is about more than a lion's den and a fiery furnace.

Great commentary study guide
Dr. Seow's book was very helpful for commentary for my church's small group Bible study. I quoted his name and comments often in our study of Daniel. It is Westminster John Knox Press.

A very thorough commentary; more historical information than I ...
A very thorough commentary; more historical information than I need. This made it more difficult to get the comments directly related to the text of the book.
