John Frieda Precision Foam Colour

I generally do not write product reviews for hair dye because they are usually all about the same. Store brand ones, that is. They drip and splat on the floor. They take forever to rinse out in the shower. They bleed all over the towel and pillow case. They are very bright on my grey hair and fake and bright even on my color hair. Some fall off the grey faster than others. This one...no drips on my floor. A couple on my sink, due to my error. Rinsed out of my hair turning into clear water very fast. I have never experienced clear running water before. My shower was not splatted up with colored water. My towel is not stained up. And my roots, grey and all, looks like a natural colored hair. No bright fake look. So far, I am more than impressed. And so long as the color stays on for at least a month, I will be sold as a loyal customer.

Just to be clear, this is coming from someone who is incredibly bad at at-home dye kits. The first time I tried to use one, I ended up with uncolored patches on each temple, as well as under the top layer of hair (the downside of having thick hair is that you never really comprehend how much hair there is to cope with until it starts giving you problems). The next couple of times, I tried a red dye that turned my hair a weird burgundy color and washed out within the month. The one time I tried to dye my hair purple, I ended up with no apparent change in color, just a feeling like I'd shampooed with melted crayons. A professional I am not. So when I tried this foam color kit, I fully expected that I would screw it up somehow. And while it's not exactly magic- you have to apply a lot of foam, and you still have to be careful to get to every part of your hair- I was pleasantly surprised at the hassles I didn't have to deal with. The foam is so thick and solid that it doesn't drip as readily as most dyes, which saves a lot of cleanup time, and it's possible to cement long hair on top of you head in a makeshift updo so that the dye doesn't smear off on your towel or your wall or an inconvenient patch of skin (even if your hair is normally so heavy and unmanageable that it works its way out of any ordinary attempt to fasten it up). The conditioner seems to work well; I kept it on for as long as I could, and my hair is softer than it's been in weeks (though I doubt I'll be able to use it for a second wash like the container recommends, because I nearly used the entire little tube up).I've heard some complaints about the dye coming out much darker than expected, but what I got was pretty close to what was on the package: a nice chocolate brown, with some unexpected caramel-ish highlights. Not bad at all for $10! I'll definitely buy more when the color gets too faded.

This is so easy to use and it actually does color the grays I have, it doesn't turn them into "highlights" that come back in two weeks. I use a shade very near my natural dark brown (Dark Chocolate Brown, 4BG--I'm the short one in the photo). The mousse is easy to apply and I like how they have you massage the color into your hair. The conditioner is nice and you get enough to last you for some time (depending on your hair's length, of course.) It's easy and you get all of the roots that way. The color also comes off of your skin easily with just a wet washcloth, even if it's been a few minutes before you noticed that stripe on your arm just above where the gloves were. Oh, and the gloves are thick and durable, nothing like those peel-off gloves that come with the cheapie brands. I've been using this hair color brand for years and I highly recommend it.

This product does not work at all! Once I rinsed my hair out, it was as if nothing was put in my hair. All I did was change some of my hair reddish while other parts remained gray! I was so disappointed and mad because I used the entire bottle. There should be a ZERO stars rating for products like this! With the name, John Frieda I was expecting the product to have a good long lasting color, but I was greatly disappointed! I will never buy this product again nor will I recommend it to anyone!

I most recently purchased the Dark chocolate hair color and I really like it. It has more red tones than expected but all in all a great color. I've also tried natural dark brown and natural medium brown. The natural dark brown I like a lot but it is pretty dark when first colored... I prefer this color more a couple of days or a week after colored when it's a little less dark. I wasn't a fan of the natural medium brown.. it didn't seem to last as long as usual and hold its color. It turned to a copper color which I wasn't a fan of and the color seemed to fade faster than the others.

I've been using this product since I was in my 20s when I started to notice a few grays. I also just loved the color of this dye instead of my boring jet black hair. I used to be asked if my hair color was my natural hair color because it's a beautiful chocolate shade that looks natural, but has a beautiful sheen when the sun shines on it. I noticed that my hair sheds less with this product and my hair seems to be healthier and less damaged as well. I credit it to the gentleness of the foam. It also has less of a strong ammonia smell although it still does have it. I make a lot less mess with the foam too. The foam dye isn't splashed onto every random wall in the bathroom, because it foams instead of "farts dye onto your hair and walls". The biggest pro is that this is easier to use than your regular dye-at-home job because it foams and has a better coverage. There's less chance of you missing a spot with the foam. I have super thick, straight, black hair. I thought this wouldn't work with my black hair, but surprisingly it does. It's not super obvious color on my hair, but I don't want it to be. I want it to look like it could be my natural hair color. I've been dying my hair since I was a teenager and the regular dyes were a bit more work. You have to make sure you do it correctly with a regular dye otherwise you might miss a spot. I also used to have long hair so I used to need at least 2 boxes with regular dyes. This product makes it possible to use only 1 box and have my whole head colored. Now I'm 33 and I can no longer deny I have premature graying. I have to dye my hair now or I'd look 50 years beautiful. Nothing wrong with 50, I just want to enjoy my 30s as I'm supposed to. After all, we are only 30s for a few years and never again. A lot of my hair from the sides of my head is now white and I have to dye my hair about every 2 to 3 weeks to hide it from my husband who is now home 24/7 thanks to this 2020 pandemic. He swears he hasn't seen any grays in my head, but that's because Amazon has saved me a lot with having this dye on subscription for me every month. I did notice though that I have some stubborn grays that won't dye with this even when I leave it on for 45 minutes. It's definitely a new challenge, but it looks to dye most of my grays well enough. I just need to make sure I really cover every white hair with foam completely and for the full 45 minutes. So for now, this is still my go-to dye for my hair. I haven't looked "rough" yet during this pandemic, fortunately. I get my hair color done by myself. As well as my lashes (diy extensions), I also wax myself already before the pandemic, and I tried nail on glue for the very first time this year. I think some of the Chinese sellers have figured out that most of us rely on positive reviews so they've managed to fake tons of it to sell more product. So I'm starting to review products on Amazon and anywhere else online that I buy to help combat that. I got this product because I had recently dyed my hair red and the color faded to quickly, so I decided I wanted to go for something more neutral to cover up the faded color. It didn’t fully cover up the red, which is to be expected considering the directions do warn about this. The main issue is the fumes. There is nothing on the box or the directions that says to open a window or turn on a fan, and the smell BURNED. It was incredibly painful, so strong I could barely breathe and thought I was going to pass out. It hurt to breathe through both my nose and my mouth. It has been about hour since use and my chest still hurts even though I had opened a window while using it. The packaging needs more proper warning of this. Otherwise, the color turned out cute and the product was very easy to use, I had more than enough product for my hair that was about two inches below my shoulders. Did not stain anything (at least not enough to notice) and rinsed out very quickly. Very good hair dye experience minus the smell.

I have been using hair dye for about 15 or so years to cover the gray so I have tried many brands. This is a good dye. I think it does a good enough job overall to use primarily for the length of my hair. I don't find that it covers the gray at the roots as well as I'd like it too though. So. when I need a root touch up, I use another product in a similar color and use this for the length as I said. It's really easy to use and the squeeze bottle and foaming action are a plus in makign the process a lot easier. Overall, I plan to keep using itand woudl recommend it.

I have very thick long hair and only need to use one box. Color always turns out how it's supposed to. Love this stuff!

C'est un porduit trés facil d'application et de bonne couvrance. Cependant l'envoie est pitoyable. 2 fois que je commande, 2 fois le paquet était ecrésé et déchiré !

This is a good formula and very straightforward to prepare. Easy application and relatively less a hassle than the classic ones. But the 100% gray hair coverage claim is a hyperbole. Would repurchase for quick easy dyeing.

It gives you darker color than it looks.
