Question 1

How durable is the coating? I'm hoping to dip the handles on some of my "cheap" auto tools with this.

I dipped the handle of a snap-on screwdriver 30-years ago numerous times. It was durable for many years. That screwdriver new sells on E-bay today for $50. The rubber coating hardened and parts of it fell off, and parts of it had to scraped off with a utility knife leaving a very ruff surface. I wouldn’t use it ever again on any expensive new tool. Now, I have to purchase it again to make the screwdriver usable because after scraping it off the “plastic” handle it is too ruff to use. Might be better for bare metal surfaces that are easier to clean.

Question 2

This stuff hardens after it is opened, even if stored like instructed.  So then you have to thin it with lacquer to use it …how well does this work?

Get the smaller size, 14 oz, and keep it, the whole can,  in an evacuated, 1 quart canning jar. I have had good luck doing this with epoxies, Shoegoo, etc. The oxygen seems to be the culprit. My opened Shoegoo flows like new after many months having been stored in a vaccuum. In the past, the Shoegoo tube would harden,even if kept tightly screwed closed. Hard to put xylol in a tube !!! It may not last forever, but the vacuum sure slows the deterioration. A little xylol could also be added. If the can lid leaks, the residual oxygen will be sucked into the jar.

If there is s very small area that is peeling can you use small paintbrush with it? Area is too small for spray. Thanks!

You sure can. It's great with a paint brush.you can even think it out if need me.   I use a paintbrush in fact to dip electronic boards. Especially ones that have connections that can't be dipped. Use the brush to coat the board to prevent it from getting into connection ports. If your using it to fix a part that is peeling, I pull off any lose pieces and then use sandpaper or something to rough the surface were the plasti dip ends. Helps it to stick and not peel off again.

Question 4

I have a computer charger that has a split in the rubber. Can I dip the cable to cover the spots of exposed wire? It is completely split in one area.

Absolutely! But I wouldn't dip it. Start by cleaning the area thoroughly with rubbing alcohol. If more than one of the wires inside the cable is bare, wrap it with a small piece of electrical tape. If you use tape you will need to clean again after applying. Then using a small piece of flat wood (tongue depressor or Popsicle stick) to spread a thin layer of Plasti Dip. Allow to set up overnight, and repeat until the desired coating is achieved. Hope this helps. All the best, Fred
