Alone Together on Dan Street

What a beautiful book. I teared up reading it. It captures the loneliness of the pandemic in child friendly and reassuring ways. It also is beautifully grounded in the specifics of living in Jerusalem. And as one lonely girl goes to the balcony--the only place she can be alone while her family is working--and asks why this night is different from every other night--she is answered. She brings the community together and experiences a new way to sing. And the best part is that it's based on a true story. I also felt that the story described the pandemic in an enduring way, so that generations to come would appreciate and understand the experience, as well as learn how to overcome adversity through giving. Love.

....and made this lovely story come alive. I bought 2 copies for each of my grandchildren and they love the pictures....so full of character and detail. The illustrator has done a wonderful job. I will look for more of her work. Wonderful.

This is a beautiful tale set in Israel during the lockdown from coronavirus. This uplifting story follows a little girl who brings together her community during Passover while they need to be apart. It is beautifully written and illustrated. If you are looking for a book that tugs at your heart strings and makes you feel hope in the world around us, then you must read this one!

This sweet book shows that even under dark circumstances the human spirit has the capability to shine. Even when things don’t go as we hope, there is always a way through. Wonderful story for children and lesson for adults as the pandemic continues to upend so many beloved traditions.

This is one of the most beautiful children's books I have ever read, in all sense of the word! Set in the pandemic, but a timeless story about how hardship can bring us together if we try. I dare you to read it without crying!

This wonderfully touching story is told from the viewpoint of young Mira. The illustrations are beautiful. This will be a story to share for years to come of a time that was happening all around the world.

Beautiful pictures & engaging story!

This book is a celebration of Jewish Passover, but more than that, it is the story of a young girl and her imaginative way to bring people together using music. While set during the Covid pandemic, the book is about the connecting power of music and how it can fill the holes of loneliness across generations and across balconies. Beautiful story!

Connecting is something we often took for granted before we were not able to connect in the same way. Alone Together on Dan Street is beautifully written to express the many emotions experienced during a time that was unfamiliar to us all. Mira's creativity and a heart for others comes shining through in this touching story. Erica Lyons weaves family, faith, friends and traditions together to remind us that moments are to be treasured and sharing them with others fills our hearts and brings us together. Beautiful illustrations compliment this story set in Jerusalem during the time of a pandemic. I look forward to putting in on my picture book shelf and sharing with students and families.
