Easy Glide Surgical Seam Ripper Item# 732A

I decided to try this product after buying one for a quilt fairy at a retreat. (It’s like a Secret Santa, but for quilters.)The blade is super sharp and it cuts through stitches like butter. I found that if you hold the sewn object with both hands and pull it so it’s taut, you can glide the blade in a downward motion to cut through stitches. It’s definitely faster at removing stitches than a regular seam ripper, but you have to be careful to maneuver it in such a way that you don’t cut holes in your fabric. (Ask me how I know.)This seam ripper comes with a cover for the blade. I’m not a fan of this cover. It’s made of a rubbery, sticky material that tends to stick as you slide it over the blade. If you’re not careful, the blade can cut through this. While the blade cover is a necessity, I think it would be better if it was made with a different material that cannot be damaged as easily when sliding it over the blade. I don’t envision this cover lasting long term as I’ve nicked it several times when sliding it over the blade. I think a metal or hard plastic cover would be best for this purpose.

I use with my cross stitch when I need to rip out several stitches. These are sharp, but not expensive. They are priced where I can have several on hand and I also gave several out to my stitching friends in my group and gave them the ordering information. They tried them during our last meeting in October 2025 and really liked them.

Works very good. Is nice and sharp. The blade is thin and it is easy to cut even very short length stitches. I also like the fact that you can replace the blades when they are dull. My only complaint is the cover. It is a rubber and difficult to insert the blade into it. I have noticed that the blade will cut it unless you have just the right angle when capping it. I can see it eventually cutting all the way through the cover an becoming useless. Not a deal breaker as I am sure I can find a solution if/when that happens. Overall I really like this seam ripper over any other I have used.

I use these all the time when I am quilting. In fact I have several. The blade is sharp plus easy to change when dull. Screw can come loose so keep an eye on it. I still think it’s the best seam ripper I have.

Incredibly sharp blade. Slices through thread when unpicking seams on garments. Be careful when attaching the blade to the handle. The tiny screw pops out easily. And yes, like other reviews mention, if not careful, the blade will eventually slice through the soft plastic cover.

Tried to use this item for the first time today vampy sewing machine has been in shop so did not need to use it until now. Unfortunately the return window has passed. It is probably a great seam ripper but the little screw that allows you to insert blade was so tight I could not get it off. After many tries, it broke off and is now unusable. Can’t get the broken tiny stem of screw out to try to find replacement. Very disappointed.UPDATE: Contacted company twice about a screw replacement but no response.

I had a T-shirt seam, I wanted to rip off, and those things are together with a serger, this little puppy ripped right through it, it is pretty sharp, I cut a little small pinsized hole, but now I want to go rip some pockets off some denim, I know this will be FUN. The only thing I would say is, when you try and put the blade on, remember what little screw you took off what little part. I took the screw out, and couldn't remember, it was trial and error, no directions. There is two blades, only not on it, you have to put the first blade on yourself, so when removing the screw, remember where it was.
