Better for everything but fighting games, and not particularly worse there
I'm not exactly sure how much better it is for fighting games, but my inputs come out just as well as they did on the stock Sanwa square gate.I guess motion inputs feel a bit less smooth since you hit a corner on every direction instead of just at the diagonals. It's may not be an outright upgrade for fighting games, but it doesn't feel like it's doing anything to mess me up.However, for pretty much every other arcade game genre I've tried that uses a digital stick, it has been a very definite improvement over square gate.Shoot-em-ups, beat-em-ups, puzzle games, etc. You just have much more certainty that you're heading in a given direction than on a square gate. Shoot-em-up games are dramatically improved, no more getting accidental diagonals and running into a bullet for no reason.Plus, 4-way games like Pac-Man are practically unplayable on a square gate set to 8-way mode, and opening up the stick to rotate the stock gate to 4-way is a pain. On this gate, you can play 8-way and 4-way games just as well without opening up your stick. You have absolute certainty that you're hitting a cardinal direction, so Pac-Man actually turns the right way around the corner. It's basically just better than a stock square gate, with the single mild caveat that fighting game motions are a bit bumpier (but they aren't impeded either).

Works very well on Arcade 1Up Mortal Kombat machine
I bough this pair of gates to replace the standard 4-directional cube shaped-gates that come installed on the 1Up MK machine (and presumably other 1Up machines, though I can't speak for those personally). The MK machine is great but the joysticks felt a little too loose and pulling some directional maneuvers off was more difficult than it needed to be. While the looseness was mitigated somewhat by also installing some 6 lb springs on the joysticks, these replacement gates took care of the directional issues. While there's still the occasional "misfire" when pulling off a multi-directional move such as certain fatalities and whatnot, characters now jump forward and backward more easily and with less deliberate pushing than they did before.Replacement is a very simple process, just unscrew and open the control panel (DO NOT LET IT DROP! It could possibly tear the video ribbon which only has enough slack for the control panel to be pulled out a few inches), gently disconnect the video ribbon, flip the control panel upside down, and unscrew the underside cover. This will expose the gates, which are snapped into place by four corner tabs. Carefully press in the tabs to pop the old gate out, and snap the new one into place. These replacement gates are more of a snug fit than the ones that come stock with the machine, so try to only install them when you're sure that you won't need to do anything else with the control panel (such as, for example, installing a replacement spring like I did). You WILL be able to get the replacement gate back off, but due to the tighter fit you have a higher risk of something cracking or breaking. Just be careful and treat the product gently and you'll be fine.

Review for SANWA GT-Y Octagonal Restrictor gate for JLF Joysticks
I bought these for an Arcade1up Mortal Kombat 30th anniversary edition cab. I can confirm that these do indeed fit nicely. Great product and the shipping was fast.

Great mod for shoto players.
Reworking my fight sticks and putting in new buttons and added octogates to the joysticks. Easy install. They just pop right in place of the stock square gate. Definitely helps for RYU-style players.

Freaking worth it.
Turn that old square shape to what it should be. This will help amazingly with any sanwa joystick controls.

Exactly what I needed
Easy to install. Feels a lot more comfortable to use over the square gate. struggled with dragon punch consistency with the square, but after installing the octagonal I found it a lot easier.

Much improvement over Square Gate for me.
Came with two new official Sanwa octagonal gates sealed in a new resealable package. I have the Razer Panthera SFV PS4/PS3/PC edition. My stick has easy access push button and a hydraulic lever that holds it open. 4 clamps you press down to remove the square gate. The new octagonal gates slide right in the same way as the old gate. Entire process took all of 60 seconds. I put the square gate in the package with the other octagonal gate and have it if I need it later. Works perfectly and is much easier for me to do SPD motions now like when doing a Critical Art mid combo. I can now land it pretty much every single time from both sides. Before I could always land it from the right side but if I was on Player 1 side it was about half the time I would not rotate the joystick far enough right for the 2nd quarter circle. Now since this gate has clear ridges for every motion I can easily feel when I hit the right motion and it lands every time. Definitely recommend trying these out if you haven’t. Worst case you spend 9-10 dollars and end up likeing the square gate more. But you can put it right back in and send/resell/save the octagonal gates for later. Most likely tho this will help your motions out a lot as it did mine.

Perfect for arcade 1up second GEN fighting machines.
The media could not be loaded. These things are awesome. I was sceptical at first that they would make a difference, but Immediately, I was much better at pulling off special moves in Street fighter. Obviously not able to show you that in the video with one hand just that they work in all directions. Definitely worth the price If the quality is good, which it seems to be. Installation was easy enough, 10 screws and about 10 minutes. There are many videos on YouTube. Now they are a bit tight to get on which made me a bit nervous on the first one , but then the second one was a breeze.

The real deal but rather pricy
I bought this two pack as it was only $1 more than the single item. However, these are $3 parts from other suppliers.
