The best
This is the best adoption book I’ve ever read. And I’ve read more than a few. It gave clear insight and also offered suggestions on what to do as a parent. I highly recommend it for any parent who is struggling with a child that has experienced trauma. I have a complete change of thinking. And one that I needed.

Every Adoptive Parent Should Read
This has been such a helpful, insightful book. If you know & love an adoptee please take time to read this. It's easy and quick but will make a tremendous impact!

Great!
Very useful and practical help. Will refer to again and again. This is an important piece of work that many adoptive parents and those working with children will find helpful.

Simple & Helpful
This book opened my eyes to how much my own trauma as a child affects how I parent my children from a place of fear instead of love. I appreciated the reference that our job is not to force our child to adhere to a certain mold we’ve come up with, but to encourage, love and support them as God molds them into who He creates them to be. I look forward to researching more resources from the Post Institute.

Hope for Parents
I love this book, but more importantly, my clients love this book. I often recommend it or loan it to parents to read in my counseling practice who have reactive children and/or teens. But the truth is, this book is great for any parent. While "logic and consequences" parenting works for some kids, this form of parenting that I call "joining with your child" can work for almost any kid. I intuitively used some of these principles with my own children before I became aware of this book. It takes time and a willingness to rethink your current paradigm of discipline, but it is well worth the effort. You will feel motivated to continue your exploration of these ideas. Often, after parents read it, they will call me and tell me it has changed their lives and their relationships with their children. What more can I say?

Perfect for adoption from foster care
This book was recommended to our GPS class from our instructor. Please read this book- if you are fostering or adopting from foster care this is perfect for you. The book really made us look at thing in a different perspective. It is an easy read, with key points along the way. It isn't overly long- I read it in one day. I highly recommend.

This book contains good ideas about how these children are acting in fear
This book attempts to throw out the current idea that unattached children are trying to control their environment through their behavior. This book contains good ideas about how these children are acting in fear, and the alternative is love ("perfect love casts out fear"). Though this may be true, their acting in fear is demonstrated by controlling their environment. There are no practical ideas here to help change this behavior other than presenting more patience and not pushing back emotionally. No magic bullets in this game!!

Content is very good but Kindle version is poor
The written content is excellent but the kindle version of this book is poor. The title page of every chapter has an image with a quote and the images are cut off. The beginning of the chapters are also cut off so the messages are incomplete.

for all parents everywhere - this is a brilliant resource, simple and obvious
The title is misleading, although clearly written for 'adopted' children, i've played with 'removing' the word 'adopted' as I read and without exception, every single time the writing is 100% applicable to parenting generally.I can't recommend this book highy enough. As every hard working or even struggling parent knows, the last thing we need is something else to deal with. This is not that. Written in bite size chunks which are easy to read and digest, the critical thing is to create the breathing space to apply it!

Brillaint
An informative book which is concise covers the subject matter brilliantly. Working with traumatized children l cannot recommended this book enough. Unlike other books which can be heavy going this books small chapters and recap at the end of each chapter make it easy to read. Also check out the authors utube clips and website which is equally as informative.

Must read for anyone adopting or fostering children
This is a really interesting read for anyone involved with adopting/ed, fostered, attachment issued, needy or distressed children as it has lots of examples and easy to understand scenarios and explanations for behaviours. The author is American and can be a little cheesy at times but overall a great handbook for anyone interested in child well being and support.

one of the easiest book to read about parenting the adopted child
This book is well structured, easy to read and good suggestions to use with your child. I had done an attachment focused parenting course and this book followed on nicely. I am not sure if I would have been able to apply the techniques if I had not done the course. I recommend this to any parent, including those with adopted children.
