Borner Combi Chef Stainless Steel 4-in-1 Food Slicer and Grater

This is a versatile kitchen gadget that may put my food processor on permanent vacation. This is the best grater I've ever used. Had the Borner V-slicer for 25 years, and its accessory pack I bought at the fair. I'm still using it, and it still slices tomatoes thin! But I digress…The Borner grater with its catch bin is fantastic. I made zucchini noodles the other night, thinking I'd have to revert to slicing thin with a knife. The grating style variations are a little different than American made graters, but that's a good thing. The fine grate is perfect for potato pancakes, zucchini bread or carrot cake, and hard cheese. The wide grate is useful for veggie noodles, cheddar cheese for mac n cheese or enchiladas. Slicer works for potatoes au gratin or scalloped. One of the best features is that you can grate in both directions, resulting in half the work of traditional graters.I expect this to last a long time. It's relatively heavy stainless steel, and I see no evidence or rusting yet.

This is sturdy and works well although it is a bit large. The food holder could be designed a lot better. I particularly like the julienne grater which leaves a relatively fine match stick size slice good for carrots etc. The basic grater size takes quite a few passes to get a useable amount. Its definitely a good deal though.

I saw a TV cook using this tool or something similar to make a tomato, potato, zucchini pie and thought if was just the thing - especially with the box to catch the food! But she ended up with much thicker slices than this one provides. The slicer side is pushed in a little and probably the cause of the problem but I didn't return because I had no idea at that time just how simple it is on Amazon. Have waited too long so will put it in this summer's community yard sale and hope it's what someone else might be looking for but I cannot recommend.

I received the product and the plastic was broken. I didn't return. I have used it twice but I find it too bulky and must be handled with extremely precaution to avoid any accidental cuts.

The vegetable slices are too thin. When I saw Rachael Ray use it on her TV program, the slices appeared larger.

So far (a week in) I love it! I really, really like the built in collection tray, without which grating can be a huge mess, especially for red vegetables like beets and red cabbage. The tray makes things so much neater and easier. The vegetable gripper is surprisingly effective, much more so than the one that came with my previous mandoline – extremely easy to use, comfortable, and good at gripping the veggie at hand and getting it sliced or grated down to the very end. As a mostly vegan I process a TON of vegetables, and haven't taken the plunge on a food processor yet, for several reasons (price, clunkiness, size...). The Combi Chef seems like an elegant, long-lasting, happy medium between chef's knife/cutting board and food processor. I made a beet and kohlrabi matchstick salad with incredible speed and minimal mess – latkes are up next.

Great strong grater. I have been looking for a good quality grater/slicer and I didn't think good quality graters existed anymore, then I found this one. It's heavy, sturdy and very sharp. I think this will be the last grater I'll ever need because it should last forever, just like graters used to last back when quality in manufacturing mattered to the manufacturers.

Pros: excellent quality, sturdy, worth the price paid, easy to use. Cons: difficult and dangerous when trying to clean the Combi Chef. I am happy that I have it when I use it, but I do not use it as often, due to the difficulty in cleaning it.

Best grater I have ever used!!! The bidirectional cutting surface makes grating cheese very quick! The blades are VERY sharp, so be warned. Finally, I do wash the metal grater in the dishwasher on the bottom rack with no issues, but hand-wash the plastic guard and hopper.

i buy it for a present, my friend is happy with this item, great quality!

Still not sure how to get it to work as well as I see Rachael Ray does.

This is a great product. Works like a charm, but be very careful when cleaning it!
