Fourth book in the phenomenal Cat Who Series
The fourth installment of one of my favorite series of books. In this book Qwilleran is assigned to write about gourmet cooking and he and the cats reconnect with his former girlfriend and move into a new apartment house. His former girlfriend is having marital problems and then disappears and her husband claims that she left him. But then the house boy also disappears and after reading a book about pottery Qwilleran realizes that his former girlfriend's husband is a madman who killed her so he informs the landlord about what he did, but the landlord found it really hard to believe. After Qwilleran confronted the killer with his suspicions the man denies everything calmly but later, in the middle of the night attempts to bludgeon Qwilleran with a rolling pin. Thankfully Koko booby trapped their room resulting in the murderer falling and being disarmed while Qwilleran got to safety and called the relevant authorities.

Book #4 (Pottery)
I have the Kindle edition - I have to say that I think this is the best Kindle conversion I've seen - I don't recall any errors on the Kindle.I really want to own the first five books in Kindle form - this book is #4 in the series, and I have #1 through #3 - I only need #5!Qwill is trying to lose weight, but it's complicated when he is assigned to write a food columns for the Fluxion. As with all of the early books, he moves into a new place for this story. He meets the woman whom he had planned to marry (but she had run away); she is married, but unhappy - then she vanishes again. Can Qwill find her, with the help of super-smart Koko? The mysteries of the "Cat Who" stories are so-so; it is Qwill and the cats that make the tales re-readable.This book has several emotional shocks; one of them is when Qwill comes back from being out of town overnight and being told that his cats are dead. Other pretty shocking things happen on the way to resolving the mystery. The characters throughout her books are like real people: flawed - Qwill is trying to take off 30 pounds, and is having to deal with needing reading glasses in this book - this kind of thing carries on for Qwill and those around him in the books. While it is true to life, it is someone depressing to be reminded of this in light reading.Nevertheless, still highly enjoyable.

Koko....stay away from that pottery!
"The Cat Who Saw Red" was published 18 years after the third book in the series ("The Cat Who Turned On and Off"). However, the action picks up right where the last one left off - Jim Qwillerman is still working at the Daily Fluxion, living in Junktown (site of his last mystery), and dating socialite Mary Duckworth. Qwillerman, though, receives a surprise when he is made the food critic for the newspaper. Mary suggests that he start at Maus House, a boarding house for artists that features the culinary delights of lawyer Robert Maus. Qwilleran samples the food and also runs across an old friend, Joy Graham. Turns out that he was once engaged to Joy until she mysteriously disappeared. Joy is now married (unhappily) and is a potter living at Maus House. She flirts with Qwilleran, and before he knows it, he's leaving Junktown, renting an apartment at Maus House, and getting to know the residents. When people start disappearing, Qwilleran gets an assist from Koko and Yum Yum in helping him solve the mystery. This fourth entry in the series is an enjoyable romp. As always, author Lilian Jackson Braun populates the story with an array of colorful characters. The mystery is pretty straight-forward and easy to solve, but the fun is always in reading about Qwilleran and his bond with his cats. Whenever I finish a book in this series, I immediately look forward to reading the next one.

A good read
You don't expect a murder mystery involving two exotic cats but that is what this story of The Cat Who saw Red gives you. Also an insight into the world of pottery, good living and eating. With a cast of believable characters it really is a good read.

Great Book !!! If you've not read one of these books....you are missing out ... big time.
My gosh Lilian Jackson Braun certainly has amazing talent in her ability to capture the characters of the people in the stories she writes as well as her beloved cats.... and her love for her cats comes over in each story....But also what an imagination she has and what a talent.

Enjoyable read
Thoroughly enjoyable who dunnit.. Gives me the sense of the 1940s when I'm reading (although think it's the 60s) because the characters are very genial which is thoroughly refreshing. Not too taxing but the mystery and the characters (including the cats) keep you engaged right to the end...and you will learn a little bit about pottery too.
