Foods & Flavors from Nepal

Great recipes and also an introduction to Nepali cultures and traditions
As a long-time user of Jyoti Pathak’s Taste of Nepal, I was so excited to get my hands on Foods and Flavors of Nepal. It is a marvelous book, one that transcends a simple cookbook. It’s more like an encyclopedia of Nepali culture and cuisine. There is beautiful photography of Nepal, Nepali cuisine, Nepali ingredients, vivid descriptions of major festivals in Nepal, and so much more. Each time I open the book I have nostalgia for my homeland. I would buy the book simply to look at the pictures. (A tip – please check Ms. Pathak’s social media account for many other photographs.)Not surprisingly, the book also delivers in terms of recipes. My favorites are Sishnu ko Saag (nettle greens), Saandheko Aalu (spicy potato salad), and Taamaa-Aalu (bamboo shoots). I also like the Sel-Roti (sweet rice bread). I can’t wait to see what Ms. Pathak makes next!

Beautiful & clear guide to cooking from Nepal
For anyone who has ever tasted and enjoyed food in Nepal, this is the second of Jyoti Pathak’s excellent cookbooks (the first being The Cooking of Nepal). Four things make her cookbooks outstanding: (1) the beauty of her photos; (2) the depth of her cultural descriptions; (3) the inclusion of recipes from some of the many unique cultures of Nepal, especially the Newar, which is inarguably a truly distinctive world cuisine, and; (4) the clarity of her recipes, with careful instructions on technique, adapted to Euro-American kitchens, that will allow anyone who follows them to produce tasty and authentic foods, capable of making the mouths of both foreign friends of Nepal and expatriate Nepalese marooned throughout the world water. Thank you, Jyoti, from all of us who love Nepal!

Easy to follow recipes
This is a fantastic book on Nepali foods---the recipes are so easy to follow and turn out great. I visited Nepal many years ago and have the original Taste of Nepal cookbook, which is excellent. I was so happy when this came out. I tried one of my favorite foods--Sikarni and it turned out perfect. Must check this book out---it's not just recipes but also tons of interesting facts of Nepali culture, festivals--I want to make everything!!

Great Recipes, simple ingredients
This is our second book from the author and we simply loved all of her recipes. The ingredients are simple and easy to always have in any Nepali/South Asian household, the process is equally well explained and the end result is ALWAYS ON POINT! Everything we’ve made from the book so far has been amazing!! The pictures are great additions as well!

Simply wonderful photos
I did Peace Corps in Nepal back in 1995 and it was the best two years of my life. I loved Taste of Nepal, the bible of Nepal food, so I had to get this one. So far, I am impressed. I love all the lentil recipes. This book has beautiful authentic photos, that makes me want to go back to and visit after 30 years. Highly recommended!

Amazing!
Love this cookbook and the photos. I’m a visual person so all of the photos inside is a huge plus. My partner and I spent a month in Nepal and really connected with the food. We are so excited to try these recipes in our kitchen.

Fascinating book!
Part cookbook, part culture guide, and packed with lovely stories and images. I’ve become facilitated with Nepal and not only did I enjoy reading this book, but also trying a few of the recipes.
