was given to my friend who was going to be traveling by herself so I wanted the best one, and it did just what it said, was so loud and bright it would scare anyone

it's nice and loud and bright, surely attracts attention, the only thing I would say the pin is a little hard to pull out

After 6 months, it died noisily. This is the biggest con. I keep this on my summer walking bag, which I had on a coat rack for the winter. I It started going off in the middle of the night. Not fully off, but short burst like when a fire alarm has a low battery. I immediately tried to charge it. This did not stop the random annoying beeping. In desperation, I took it apart and removed the rechargeable battery. That I will recycle.The image shows the inside without the battery portion.During the 6 months this did work, it was okay. The rechargeable feature is fantastic, unfortunately this sounds nowhere near as loud or annoying as the cheap no name bulk alarms Amazon sells at low cost. (The downside with those is you need to test them pretty frequently because the disposable batteries will die without notice.)The cheapies are also easier to set off in a pinch. Their pin is easier to pull, so you can set up a loop attached to the pin that you will pull if you need to alarm. I tuck the loop into a pocket such that it's easy to grab and pull but not easy to accidentally pull. With the BASU, you have to grab it firmly with two hands to set it off.Still on the hunt for the perfect personal alarm.

I purchased this as an extra safety precaution, living in a big city. I keep it attached to the side of my purse, so it's easy to get.Lights aren't very bright, but it's pretty loud.It makes me feel more comfortable carrying it with me.

The item is not sturdy the middle piece got lost on the one I purchased.
