Just buy it.
I previously owned and operated a professional home studio so Iโve heard my fair share of high end โmonitorโ speakers and subs. As such, I currently run Dynaudio Lyd 48s in my small 5.1 home theater ($2400.00 a pair). My Dynaudios are 3 way speakers. They create extremely clear, accurate sound and dialogue that diminishes most stand alone center channels by comparison. They also go down to 32 hz without strain which is already very low. I added this sub because I couldnโt justify spending 3x or more as much for just a few more hz of low end. That being said, I can honestly report that this budget Yamaha keeps up just fine for home cinema. With a frequency response that goes as low as 27 hz, you will be hard pressed to find anything better at this price point. Fellow Audiophiles will scoff at the fact that Iโm running a $200 sub next to speakers that cost more than 12x as much after taxes. But with 20 years of critical listening, Im qualified to use my ears to judge. Might I purchase a more expensive sub later? Maybe. Will I be able to tell a difference? Sure. But not by much. This is a great investment for any small to medium sized room. I wouldnโt recommend it for mixing - the frequency response is far from flat and the lack of adjustability does not allow for crossover/fine tuning. But for the average consumer, this thing is exactly what you want; Itโs small, simple, powerful, and will make your music and movie watching experiences fun! Iโm not sure how Yamaha did this for $200. The flared port must be something from a magical land. The bass is tight and low enough to enjoy 90% of films without showing signs of stress. Only a few movies will reveal its weaknesses. Youโll have to search to find those (Iโll give you a hintโฆ Dune). But at this price, youโll forgive it. Youโll love it. It will be your friend. Just buy this thing. if your room is too large and youโre on a budget, buy 2 and donโt look back. Rest assured, you wonโt be disappointed.

Excellent small, value sub
I bought this mini sub when I was living in my apartment because Iโm a big movie person, but didnโt want to piss off the neighbors with a larger, true HT sub (plus I was on a tight budget), and was very pleasantly surprised. Itโs only an 8โ driver, so you canโt compare it to a 12โ or bigger driver, thatโs not realistic, but itโs fantastic for what it is. This thing rumbles and it has a nice tactile punch to it. I never turned the gain knob up past 5/10. I would absolutely recommend this sub for anyone with SPL (volume) limitations, neighbors, or financial limitations. At 8โ it just physically canโt get down ultra low or provide the fullness a bigger driver can, but man does it try, and if youโve never experienced anything bigger, you wonโt be missing anything. I would be very interested to listen to the 10โ version, the NS-SW100. Overall, I was thrilled with it for the size and price point at the time when I built my budget 5.1 system. It really is a fantastic little sub and I would absolutely purchase it again. If you have a bigger room or want a true HT sub, youโre gonna have to be realistic and go bigger and a lot more expensive. Otherwise, get this thing (or the 10โ NS-SW100) and enjoy!

Best value!
Wow. This is one of the smallest subs you can find but wow can it fill a room. I bought the โopen boxโ and saved. It was brand new. Indistinguishable from new. Well done

Best small room sub
Killer Sub, base fills my small living room and shakes everything in it! But its clear and crisp base with no feedback or rattling. High quality. I am a big fan of Yamaha products and this only made me more of one.

Great sub!
Great sub for the money and smaller size so easier to hide, does not have a frequency adjustment but thatโs my only complaint, really good base from only an 8โ sub. Get what you pay for and Yamaha has always delivered

Yamaha delivers again!
Yamaha makes great stuff for great prices. I bought this to replace a 12" sub that was just too big. When I first hooked this up I wasn't overwhelmed, but after making some proper tweaks to my amplifer, I was blown away by how good this thing sounds. It has clear and precise bass that is musical. It is powerful but probably won't please hard core bass addicts, although it might. I feel like it does great with hip hop, funk, jazz, rock, and just about anything. Its worth every dollar paid in my humble opinion. Its probably best used in a living room or bedroom situation. I have mine in a 15x15 space and its more than enough at 1/2 volume.

Great bottom end
Full disclosure; I'm Rebecca's dad, not Rebecca. I ordered the Yamaha sub to replace an aging passive subwoofer. Modern 5.1 systems are set up for an active subwoofer and, frankly, they need one! The Yamaha fit the bill. It was priced right, including a 15' cord to connect back to the receiver & allow the sub to be placed where I want it in the room. The results? Fantastic. 8" doesn't sound like much, but the Yamaha puts out an impressive sound. When I listen to music, it provides that low underpinning of sound that is hard to get from a standard speaker, or from an old fashioned passive subwoofer that simply lacks the volume needed. For movies, it has transformed my sound into a chair-rumbling experience. As soon as the speaker was set up, I gave it a good shakedown test - Star Wars, then Independence Day. The Yamaha delivered the kind of theater experience I've been looking for. Some people have asked if it is loud enough. Absolutely. The subwoofer itself has a volume control, which I leave at full volume; that allows me to control volume through the receiver with the remote. For most movies, keeping the SW channel just above 50% is just right; for a few action movies, such as Independence Day, I had to back it down to about 40% - high enough to feel the rumble, but low enough to hear the dialogue through the center channel. I'm sure there are some better subs out there; just depends on what you think you need. For me, the Yamaha subwoofer is a perfect match. For reference, my system is: a Denon 5.1 receiver, 2 Bose 201 speakers for front channel, and 3 Sony bookshelf speakers for center and rear channels.

Duas coisas me surpreendem aqui - a yamaha fabricar essas caixas e o chatgpt indicรก-las. Sinta-se avisado, nรฃo compre.

Great quality.
Solid build quality, great sound, super easy to set up and use. I have a medium sized room and this thing provides more than enough boom at roughly 70% before things start rattling on my shelves.

Perfect for Smaller Home Theater and Room
The size and output were the welcome, final addition to our cheapo Pioneer HTP-071 amp and now 5.1 setup. Lots of oomph for such a small size unit. I recommend to anyone, with reasonable experience and tech savvy, to revisit their amp's settings in detail and play with that vs the speakers volume output. Only complaint was the connectors could have been more varied instead of just an RCA female as our amp had only regular crimp speaker wire connectors for all including subwoofer - if you're okay with soldering this is not a big deal but finding a good RCA male barrel connector can be tricky or expensive on amazon (which I did after searching for hours and NOT wanting calling all around the city). Inexpensive amazon basics 14 gauge speaker wire and every speaker gets it's equal treatment. Worth the time and effort... at this price point you still need to fuss abit but once set your golden.

Works well at the price! $200
I bought the Edifier T5s on Amazon first, at the time it was the same price as this Yamaha (~$200). The Edifier has a great size format for my office and felt like better quality. Unfortunately it appears to require a inordinately large signal from the sub-out ports and was not able to work well no matter how I configured the amp. :( So I bought this Yamaha product. This unit works well for small rooms, I have no complaints. Lets see if it lasts. I notice the price is now much higher than I paid just a week ago? Yes, mine is a new unit, not refurbished.
