A Must-Read because you never learned this in school--
This book will open your eyes to a very real history you never read in textbooks or learned in school--at least, not before college. We are a nation built by slaves, and ours is a Constitution written to preserve the wealth of a landed white gentry against all others in the human race. 50 million people were sold out of Africa, and two-thirds of them died in agony at sea before ever reaching land. Slavery is the greatest unwritten genocide in the history of the world, and America's so-called Manifest Destiny--the arrogant land-grabbing reach "from sea to shining sea"--sprang from the wholesale betrayal and slaughter of the original, native people. Read it and weep.

Howard Zinn
Howard Zinn is a treasure. He speaks the truth about American History, all the topics not shared in the school system that focus on perpetuating the myths that all our country's actions over the centuries have been noble and good,To be the country we want to be, that we claim to be,we, as citizens, have the obligation to face the truth about our past and let that be our guide for future decisions at home and abroad.

I have fallen in love...
I have fallen in love with Howard Zinn reading his fantastic book „A People’s History of the United States”, showing America’s history from below. His „On Race” has just deepened my love. He writes about people, oppressed because of their race not just as an onlooker, but as a compassionate participant in their struggle, in their daily lives. No one else may draw such precise picture on the downtrodden.Whenever you see” Zinn”, purchase the book.

Confronting America's struggle with racial intolerance
This concise short book beautifully summarizes America's struggle with racism; especially its' confrontation with its' Black people. In doing so, the reader/student can feel and understand why the Afro-Americans are so important to the history of America's struggle with its' innate hypocrisy regarding racial tolerance.

From moment to movement.
First half is a good early history of the black movement toward equality as written from the street. Zenn moves then to a sequence of notable legal, political and other milestone discussion of the processes supporting equality. The book is a rapid read with fine print. I come away better informed about a sometimes shielded part of American history.
