My ratings are solely based as a bass fisherman using bait hooks; not flies. Someone said this can help to tie bass hooks, but it can’t. Average bait/worm hooks are almost the same size as the standard jig and can’t be tied using it. Also there’s no info on using this jig with braided line. I bought the larger size to see if that changes. If not, I’ll be returning both. Update: I ordered the larger one and started to tie some knots. It’s still not great but better than the smaller one. If you’re using 1/0 or larger, get the larger model. If you’re tying flies, the smaller one might be better for you. Mono works better than braided no matter what size jig you buy.

if you go online and look at snell knots and nail knots, they should literally just show this tool. I own this larger one as well as the smaller one for lighter lines. I actually prefer the smaller one with the snippet on it because it’s a little easier to hold the smaller circle hooks in place when Snelling my hooks. That’s just me. This handy little tool goes everywhere I go when I’m fishing. I mostly fish saltwater.If you ask why this tool, I will tell you. Snell knots and nail knots tied by hand (without this tool) have two fundamental problems. First, they use an outside line line (a piece of line that runs back up through the hook eye outside of the wrapper loops on the hook shank). This is a problem because it creates a very weak failure spot.Secondly, if you don’t use this tool and you don’t want a line running outside of your snell loops on the shank, you have to do a loop line snell, which is very challenging to tie, especially with light line.This tool allows you to tie a perfect snell or nail knot with no outside loops. It’s super clean and precise. It also allows you to tie right to a line when most snells require you to have access to both ends of the line. That doesn’t work for me. This tool is so easy to use and it works. I won’t fish without it.

I was replacing the 40 year old fly line and backing from my original reels. Nail knots were getting challenging with my aging eyes. I purchased this tool and after a couple tries I was quickly attaching fly lines to leaders and backing without trouble. Smaller size fits perfectly in my fishing bag.

I was skeptical as to whether or not this could help me. I have lost a good bit of feeling in my finger tips and was struggling getting my knots tied. After a few tries, I got the hang of this and couldn’t be happier with how easy it is for me to tie solid knots now. Might have to get a second one because I don’t want to be without this thing now that I’ve used it.

So easy to use - but best go onto You-Tube to see ALL the knots you can usse this to assist with. Their website mentions just the nail-knot, but there are several others that are equally useful. Fast and neat knots every time and so simple to use
