about all you need for almost any home wiring task
Thorough, well written, and easy to understand. I've used this for many years when doing home and shop wiring jobs. Unless you're doing something fairly involved, this should have what you need to know. It's significantly less expensive to purchase this at Home Depot.I liked this so much that I purchased the unabridged edition: "Practical Electrical Wiring: Residential, Farm, Commercial, and Industrial" by the same authors. It goes into much more detail and is great if you want to get the deepest understanding possible without becoming an electrician. Expensive, but still a great value if you do much wiring: https://www.amazon.com/dp/0971977984

Great information, easy to read and use
Great book, been around for quite a few years (they update when the new NEC comes out). I've used these books for many years and they have made my job a lot easier. Also a great resource for a beginner too - very easy to understand and apply what they say. Makes it a lot easier to conform to NEC and most likely your local standards/requirements as well. Great resource!

Great to understand intimidating things easily.
Just graduated HVAC school. Before, I never thought of me actually fixing anything. I knew there were things I needed to know more specific to my home. I learned a wealth of information here in this book. I feel even wealthier in knowledge about electricity and wiring and yet I am just a novice. This book should read by someone who knows nothing about electricity to a person well experienced as a refresher.

Good for the DIYer
I have some experience with electrical work, but it was 20 years ago and now hands on experience is relegated to occasional computer hardware work so wanted something as a reference when I was hazy on details or checking my memory or explaining something to son/wife as we replaced light fixtures and performed other DIY stuff at the house. Its been perfect for that. Its succinct enough that you can get through the drier material as well as find things as a reference source. It has a lot of data organized as tables and charts that make quick look up a breeze.

The latest edition of a classic
I've used various editions to stay somewhat up to date on wiring and electrical requirements for well over forty years. These books kept me out of trouble and, importantly, let me know when the task at hand required a licensed electrician. I've never been sorry for purchasing one, including this last one.Davegx

Hand and informative guide for safe and compliant electrical work.
I am never without an up-to-date code book. I bought 3 this year so that my son's are well-defined with regard to code requirements when dealing with electrical needs. Hand and informative.

A picture says a thousand words, don't expect that here too often..
I liked the content because it provided easy reading. I like the simple black and white diagrams. I also like the cartoons that reinforce the dangerous elements. However, a few more diagrams would help even more helpful as this supposed to be a "practical guide". For example: Difference in using non-metallic does not require cable anchoring.. A comparison picture would really help to compare and contrast the differences. Instead, the reader is left wondering what this really means. Another example is in C13 on rewiring old houses with knob-and-tube wiring. What is that even? I guess I could google it, but that defeats the point of reading a "practical guide"!Over all, it is well written, and a few more pictures would really raise the book above the others.
