Fairhaven Press Classical Sheet Music for Solo Violin

Crazy hard music some of this, love it, really challenging and keeping your brain active when trying to get through it! Difficult to find a couple of pieces to play along with - it’s in current tuning but of course most pro recording are in old school tuning - and if you know what that is then this book is for you!

I bought this book to audition for my local community orchestra and the sheet music it contains is far above my skill level. For context: violin was my primary instrument from the time I was 7 years old until I went to college where I focused on singing. I studied music theory and took private violin lessons, scoring well in local music festivals for solo violin. The pieces in this book contain a lot of double stopping, complex position changes, and trills on every note in some pieces. The music is quite lovely, but extremely difficult.The print is also very small and difficult to read from even a short distance.

This is a book of music for EXTREMELY ADVANCED VIOLINISTS. Anything less than perfection of bowing, fingering, pizzicato, double-stops, etc.will leave you fainted in a heap on the floor. The Paganini Caprices all 24 of them written by Paganini, perhaps the greatest violinist ever, for his ownuse. Each is fantastically difficult, and each is very different from the others. J.S. Bach's solo sonatas and Partitas are considered by rather goodviolinists like Jascha Heifets, Isaac Stern, etc. to be the ultimate pinnacle of violin performance! To advertise this book as for Intermediate level students is like saying I can ride a tricycle, therefore tomorrow I'm going to pilot an airliner.With superb teachers and a few years at a top Music School -- and many thousands of hours of practice, a few young people will be able toplay this music effective.

These pieces are not for the faint of heart. My son has played for five years, and every piece is difficult for him.
