Well built, easy to install, quiet
The build quality is excellent. It took only a short time to install the disk drives in the drive drawers. I took some extra time to evaluate various RAID configurations and ended up deciding in RAID 10. The software that comes with this RAID enclosure made it simple and easy to create the configuration you decide on.I would say that the documentation leaves something to be desired, but if you take a little extra time to read and use the full online manual instead of the quick start several questions will be answered. The documentation leaves you hanging in mid air at the end when you need to remember to create/format partitions in the RAID disk space with the OS (e.g. Windows). I suppose that is obvious in hindsight, but unless you have installed raw unformatted drives recently you might have forgotten that. So many USB drives these days are already formatted so it is easy to forget.I tried booting up with the new RAID system a couple of times without seeing anything new in the drive list, and looking to see if something had gone wrong installing the driver - then had the head slapping realization that I had skipped a step. On to Windows Disk Management and creating partitions (you can create one or multiple as you see fit). Now all is good. Works well and is quiet. If you hear any noise it will be due to your choice of the drives you install in the enclosure. The fan is variable speed and quiet. Only minor thing, but probably a good choice to avoid accidents, is that the power button is located on the back, which in some cases might be a little hard to reach as it is for me in its current under desk location. But putting the button in back also there means little chance of accidentally bumping it.Bottom line - a very well made enclosure, easy installation (if you use the full online manual), quiet operation, great performance. I have had no need to involve customer service, so I cannot comment on it at this point.

RAID Unit that Fails Sporadically, and Exposes Bare Drives to OS
Purchased the Highpoint RocketStor 6124V 4-Bay USB 3.1 unit, with the expectation that it could be mounted to transfer data between PC and Mac hosts in a heterogeneous environment.Initial test on a Windows 10 PC seemed positive as the RAID 5 was fairly straight-forward to build, and create an exFAT file system. It was connected to a Mac Mini running Catalina after the initial configuration. The Mac immediately alerted that four drives just connected needed to be initialized (which of course, should not be done). After installing the drivers provided at the highpoint-tech.com web site for the device, the Mac could Still see the independent drives instead of the Single RAID 5 volume that was created. Furthermore even after the Web GUI was installed, both the standard Finder interface and the Disk Utility on the Mac only could see the individual drives, and not the RAID volume. Upon a mixture of re-installs, re-connections, and re-boots, the device finally appeared, and the Web UI could see the configuration and the RAID volume could be mounted on the OS. It was then tested with data being written from the Mac with both exFAT, and Mac OS Journaled filesystems, where the transfer rate for a single transfer was fair. With the immediate need for transfer only to another Mac, the Mac OS Journaled FS was left as is, and the device was connected to another Mac. Again, the individual Disk showed up with a prompt to initialize. Again the drivers were installed, however on this unit, after the same troubleshooting process with the same OS, the web GUI fails to connect to the RAID unit even though the connection is sufficient for all of the drives to appear. I imagine that after some combination of troubleshooting processes, this might work, however any I cannot be certain that the file system is still in tact at the moment, because any time you expose individual disks that are meant to be part of a RAID to the OS, it presents a potential for a user to unwittingly format that disk for use with the operating system, thereby rending the data unavailable. In short: I would not purchase again or recommend.

Works well enough
One of the drive slots says the drive is bad but replacing the drive doesn’t fix it. Works well besides this issue.
