The product says sugar free yet the first ingredient is sugar?

There is an error in the item description and is in process of being fixed but it takes some time. This item is classic and contains sugar. The sugar free version comes in a white bag not gold.

Are these gluten-free?

I believe so. They have gelatin and sugar.
