Did Zoe "Borrow" a Design from Lesley Stanfield?
I really love the clothes in this book, especially the pink pullover on page 30. It's a beautiful sweater with a big bobble-and-eyelet flower on the front. So imagine my dismay when, about two weeks later, I got a copy of "The New Knitting Stitch Library," by Lesley Stanfield. To my surprise, right there on page 146 was the flower design from Mellor's book.Mellor's design is identical to Stanfield's. Every stitch, bobble and eyelet is the same. Not a single element is different. Here's the problem: Stansfield's book was published in 1992--a whopping 12 years before Mellor's was published in 2004.It's not that Mellor used somebody else's stitch pattern. There's no such thing as a new stitch pattern--every possible stitch that could be created has been done. But this isn't a stitch pattern. It's a design. And it's a design that Mellor uses as the principal element in an "original" sweater.Neither Stanfield's nor Mellor's book includes a bibliography, and neither author mentions any other books or designers. So it's hard to tell exactly what happened here. But given the 12-year difference in publication dates, it's likely that the flower design belongs to Stanfield. If Mellor "borrowed" this design without giving Stanfield credit, I'm really disappointed. If not, I'd sure appreciate somebody clarifying this for me!

Underrated book
I was leery about this book because of the very mixed reviews, and expected problems when I started the Robin Hood jacket. But I didn't find the instructions confusing at all, and the jacket turned out perfect! I have also knitted up half of the heart pattern cardigan, and again, no problems. The patterns are really cute, and it is easy to substitute different yarns and colors for the expensive name brand ones she uses (but if you are going to do the Robin Hood jacket, I do recommend trying to locate some Rowan Cork, a discontinued yarn. It is so soft and shows the cables well).

Fun, colorful and unique patterns
This is my second copy. I’ve made several sweaters from the book. The blue sweater on the back cover is darling. Patterns are easy to follow and well written. Recommend this to all level knitters.

Basically good book
I bought this book for one particular item, but found several that I like. Like most knitting books, there are filler items that would never be worth the time and effort and expense to make.

Great range of knits
A lot of lovely patterns in here. Haven't knitted anything out of it yet, but am going on a wool buying expedition very soon.

Packed with wonderful patterns
Love this pattern book but I just can't knit that fast to make all the things that I like. The babies grow too fast.

Not as good as expected
The patterns are attractive but wools expensive & difficult to find. Printing poor with essential headlines too faint & easy to miss. One Chart very difficult to follow as all sizes printed on top of each other. Overall rather disappointing.

Baby jerseys
This is the best knitting book for babies and toddlers I have ever seen! If you enjoy something fresh, creative, modern ... Then this book is for you! It came from America so took some time to arrive but was well worth the wait. Often, one gets an attractive pattern on the cover and then nothing very interesting in the book. However, this book is just filled with beautiful, original designs and is excellent value for money there is good advice given on yarns, colours, sizing and the instructions and charts on each pattern are crystal clear. The photographs are charming and really give you a good idea of what the final product will look like. I bought a second-hand copy and it was in excellent condition. I have no hesitation in highly recommending this book. You will not be disappointed!
