They are a very thin plastic and hollow. I think that might look good in your son's fish tank **Q: How long do they glow? I bought another set and it only glows for 2 minutes.** A: I can't give you an answer because my grandsons are 2 and 4 years. As soon as they came out of the package they were playing with them and carrying them around.
