I see reviews stating that this product has badly scratched their paint/clear coat. What are they doing wrong?

You may be getting scratches if you are not doing a chemical decontamination before claying. If there are Tar & Iron spots on your paint that haven’t been chemically removed before had you run the risk of marring your paint. Tar is basically little stones attached to your paint. If you do not remove them before claying, you will ultimately rub those little stones across your paint with your clay.

After you are done washing your car, use a tar remover then rinse with a pressure washer. Next, use a iron remover to chemically decon the built up iron particles mainly on your lower half of the vehicle and on the rear. Rinse again. Finally, you can begin your claying process.

The Speed Clay 2.0 has an expected lifespan of 20 vehicles, and it is a permanently bonded one-piece design to provide enhanced durability, so the pad is not replaceable.

May i use carpro ech2o in the proper dilution rate as lubricant?

Accepted Answer

Carpro ech2o advertises itself as a clay lubricant so *might* by appropriate. However, personally I would use a high quality car wash with good lubricity (currently using Meguirs Gold and it's very good) if I was claying during washing. If I was doing a more comprehensive clean where I was stripping the wax off the vehicle, I would use a spray bottle with dish soap and water.

Does this compare to regular clay? Will this remove light water etching on glass?

Accepted Answer

Clays -- whether traditional poly clay or clay substitutes -- do not generally remove water spots, unless they are light mineral deposits. Etching generally requires a glass polish for glass; or a paint polish or compound for paint. Water spots and etching can vary greatly depending on the cause of the etching.
