A History of the French Novel, Vol. 1 - From the Beginning to 1800 Paperback – 6 July 2010

Extremely scholarly text, filled with quotes from classical Greek, French (not translated), requiring erudition and learning from its readers...my brain is not honed sharply enough...I gave it up...but it is filled with information as a nut is filled with nutmeat and would surely be of interest to sharper minds...therefore I give it four stars, hoping someone will love it! Later..dipped into it, read about a text I am familiar with, and was very impressed with the analysis and treatment..Will dip my toes in it again, when I can cope with the challenge of the majestic sentences!
