~~Educational/Intriguing/Excellent....~~
When I am able to learn something new in a novel, I am delighted. In this one, I learned about DNA and how it is tested and also the benefits of genetic testing. Those portions of this novel were indeed fascinating and interesting to me. I had heard of this but never knew exactly what could be determined with the testing and the importance it could mean for an individual. So, now I know.In addition to the genetic portion, the author has written an intriguing novel which is full of suspense and intrigue. An entire gamut of characters fill these pages....unsavory as well as truly delightful. Dr. Hook Hookie is a Molecular Genetic Pathologist and, as should be, he is indeed the star. Loved his military background...Veteran of Nam...and also loved his gray ponytail! He may be in his early 70's but his mind is still sharp as a razor blade...Monument Medical Center in Atlanta, GA, is the location for the majority of this novel. Dr. Hook Hookie has two most interesting 'lab rats' at his side to assist him...Cynthia and Alex. The author has an outstanding grasp on the romantic side of youth...as well as the older Dr. Hook Hookie and his wife, Susan. She explains how love ages gracefully with the older couple and I loved her grasp of human nature. The story itself evolves around mysterious thefts of high priced equipment in the hospital. High value machinery is disappearing....as if into thin air...What in the world is going on and who is (or are) the perps? Then, the heists change direction and the reader is left to wonder ...once again...what is going on here?A multi-layered plot keeps the readers guessing throughout, the characters are well developed and any loose ends are tied up at the conclusion. Dr. Hook Hookie does indeed solve one of the mysteries due to his knowledge and expertise in the medical field. All in all, a most intriguing read filled with a lot of education concerning genetics. So glad that I read this one. Most highly recommended.

Good
But a bit wordy. Medical equipment , i.e. EKG and genetic testing machines , went missing from an Atlanta medical facility. Then paintings from the same place . A sharp genetic scientist started putting things together .A short story , a bit bland for me. Also , the author used capital letters on the first page of each chapter. One at the top is okay, all down the page is overdoing it.

Enjoyable and informative read filled with great characters.
Such an enjoyable read. I love Dr. Hookie. This book is a fun read and I learned some interesting things. The characters are great as they deal with problems at the high tech medical center. Genetics is fascinating and these cases they are working on are both interesting and informative. If you enjoy Dr. Ebel's medical mysteries, you will love this one.

Another good read by this author
Sorry, Barbara and readers, I am not as eloquent as others in my reviews. I either like a book or I don't. I can tell you that I did like this book as well as her other books and look forward to each one. The book was shorter than her others, but that didn't matter. The story was told. I don't care for books that seem to have extra words just to make the book longer. It was interesting that this one was about genetics and the timing. A genetic disease has recently been diagnosed in a family member and it has been recommended that other family members be tested. I am still learning about this side of genetics, but now I understand a bit more.
