Valuable for providing an intelligent understanding of hermeneutics for people who want to combine critical exegesis with a sacred entrance into scripture, and the principles could be applied to any scripture for a person who enters into a relationship with their faith tradition through a scripture.For a non academic with a degree in theology this was hard work. It would have helped if there were examples of instantiation of the methods before the example of the Samaritan woman encounter narrative at the end. The little familiarity I had with the ideas of Ricoeur helped and I will read more before giving this book a necessary second reading.

Schneiders has created an integral hermeneutical theory grounded in a transformational hermeneutical practice that explains and illuminates our Bible text as a faith based resource to the oppressed and marginalized, as well to those who are much more fortunate.Dr. Schneiders theory rises to a level that I think is "pure genius", and is a representative model for understanding the real truth that is manifested in Jesus Christ. Jesus' command to "learn of me" (Matthew 11:29) is what I think her occupation and amazing material is all about. It is the most inspiring work I have ever encountered!Mark A.
