10/10/17 Update: Great News the Visonic MCT-340 E Wireless Door Window and Temperature Sensors are now natively supported by Samsung SmartThings for hassle-free connection to your SmartThings hub. Connect to your SmartThings hub simply by putting your sensor in discovery mode, searching for a new 'thing' on your SmartThings app, and pairing with the Visonic MCT-340 E. Complete sensor installation by following the mounting instructions found on the box and you're ready to get started.

Great for the price. Works with SmartThings seamlessly.
Here are my initial impressions:The Bad:- I ordered 10 of these, and 7 of them came between 85-89% battery life. The other 3 were 100%. While not devasting, I've removed a star for that.- Sensor orientation is in the "Top Right" of the unit, so if I have to rotate it for window/door placement, I have to adjust the magnet to be lower left instead of centering them near the top. Not worthy of a star removal though, just an anecdote.- We have one door that has to "slam" a bit to shut it, and it took some finagling with the sensor to make sure that it was registering the proper state. But 60 seconds worth of work got it working great. The Good:- These are really small, they fit in just about every space I needed them to with no fuss.- Multiple extension plates for each unit. I didn't need to utilize them, but a great option if you need them.- VERY EASY to set up with SmartThings. Click "Add Thing" on your app, pull the tab, and name the unit. Incredibly easy.- The fact they work with SmartThings is great as well.- Open/Close distance is very practical. I have one that had to have the magnet a little further from the unit than I'd have liked, but it still very accurately represents the open and close states.Ultimately for $15 each, these are great little O/C + Temp sensors. I'll update after I've used them a bit longer.

Tiny, inexpensive sensors
Updated on 12/19/2017: I'm still having random disconnect issues with several of these sensors even after changing out the batteries and adding a few zigbee repeaters in my house. Since then, I've started to switch to slightly more expensive Z-Wave sensors which are working flawlessly. As such, I can't recommend using these sensors.Updated on 10/27/2017: I've been using a total of 4 of these sensors to monitor doors in my house and they seem to disconnect from my Smartthings hub sporadically. I'm forced to remove the batteries from a disconnected sensor to get it connected to the ST hub again. This happens about twice a week. My other connected devices (zigbee light bulbs, z-wave light switches and locks) don't have this issue. As such, I can't recommend these door sensors for use with a Smartthings hub.I purchased two of these sensors to monitor exterior doors to my home. They are surprisingly small, and easy to affix to the frame of my door. The tiny magnet that you mount to the door doesn't need to be super close to the sensor unit (user guide says within 1/4"). Now, these sensors don't work out of the box with a Smartthings Hub, so you have to follow the instructions from a web site mentioned by previous review. The easiest thing to do is do a web search for, "CONNECTING YOUR VISONIC MCT-340 E WINDOW/DOOR SENSOR TO SMARTTHINGS" and you'll find the details. It's not too bad, and only takes 3 minutes (you'll need an online Smartthings account, which you should have already if you own this hub).So far, the sensors are working great. Right out of the box one sensor had 100% battery life while the other was at 89%, so be sure to check. The batteries are suppose to last 3 years, so that's convenient. In addition, these sensors can measure temperature which seem fairly accurate. You can view the temp readings in your Smartthings app. I can definitely recommend buying these inexpensive sensors for monitoring doors and windows.Update: I've been using two of these sensors to monitor some doors in my home and they've been working great for the last few months. No issues, and the battery life is still good. I just recently bought two more sensors to completely cover all door entrances to my home.

Very reliable, until they aren't, and then are again..
*** Updated February 24, 2019 ***I've dropped these to 1-star.I finally had to give up on these and just pulled them off the door frames and threw them away.Seriously, don't waste your money.*** End Update February 24, 2019 ***There is a lot to like about these sensors, they are compact, sleek and very easy to set up. They are also plenty sensitive so that their companion magnet does not have to be immediately next to them to trigger which I find handy for dealing with the inevitable gaps between doors and frames. My issues are twofold:1) The battery life of the button cells is pretty dismal. I've had a pair of these for six months and already had to replace one of the batteries about 6 weeks ago, that one is currently showing a battery percentage of 44%, the other is at 33%. By contrast, of the 15 Aeon Labs sensors that I purchased between 3 and 3 1/2 years ago I have had to replace exactly 1 of their batteries and it was problematic from the get go with a starting battery percentage remaining less than 100%.2) But here is the dealbreaker. Every couple of months both the sensors just hang out there reporting their doors as open. The first time this happened I went through all the gyrations of resetting the devices, removing and re-adding them from my SmartThings Hub, restarting the hub, you name it. I got inconsistent results for a couple of days and then suddenly everything started working again. When the problem recurred a couple of months ago I just let them be to see what would happen. Sure enough after somewhat shy of a couple of weeks they just started working again. I could find no discernible reason either why they stopped or again started working. Finally, yesterday I noticed that they have stopped reporting open-closed status again. So I'm going to just replace them.I use these for some indoor doors to control heating and cooling (two doors to my office). When I'm working from home and have both doors closed I have created a piston that will put the household HVAC into ECO mode (if I'm the only one at home) and then trigger either the office air conditioner or electric heater depending on the temperature. So I wouldn't notice immediately if they stopped reporting correctly as the associated doors are usually left open.A peculiar thing... they continue to report temperature and battery status even though they do not report any change in door open-closed status. I can *hear* the little microswitch activate when the magnet comes near the unit so I *know* it's being physically triggered. Also, I can't figure out why BOTH always fail in lockstep.Oh, and these are both among the closest sensors I have in my house to my SmartThings hub. The office door is maybe 10 feet from the hub, the other door is maybe 30 feet away. When they work they are very responsive and ideal. I could live with the sad battery life if they would just work consistently. As it is I would warn you to look elsewhere, especially if these are to be part of any kind of security solution.
