Fragile
The paper cuts are the real thing rather than printed reproductions, which is both good and bad. It's nice to have the dimensionality, but the paper is thin, so they are quite fragile. I think you are supposed to turn the paper cut and see the illustration behind it on both sides, but that is tricky to do and often the background is essentially the same on both sides, so it doesn't add as much as it could. The retelling of the story is OK, but not amazing. So, overall, not as impressive as I expected, but still nice.

Four Stars
I'm disappointed the whole book isn't the cut artwork, otherwise it's a nice book.

Beautiful, but too delicate for toddlers. This book is about the complicated pictures and not the words.

WHAT'S THIS?!
I collect children's picture books, and am especially fond of fairy tales, always trying to add to my extensive collection. Agnese Baruzzi's paper cuts are lovely. However, her illustrations are haphazard and cartoonish. I actually had to check the cover to make sure that the person who did the paper cuts and the illustrations were one and the same. Such incongruity! I will definitely not purchase the other fairy tales in Baruzzi's collection, and am not happy about wasting money on this one!
