WALKER BOOKS Brand New Boy

This was a suggested book for Year 4. I bought it to read ahead before reading to my class, good job I did... Only got a few chapters in before I thought - I would not read it to my class and more so at a CofE school.The use of the word ‘hell’ as a curse word not the bible use of the word, by the children in the book, in front of their teacher, who does not react or question the word used is surprising.Perhaps it’s just me or by teaching at a church school, but if I heard my children say this, it would be stopped immediately.Not very appropriate, unless you take this out when reading, but then a word of caution. If your children like it, they might buy it themselves and will then read this anyway, not something I would promote as a teacher.Buy with caution and knowledge of who you would want to use words in book.
