I Would Rather Sleep in Texas
It is very interesting to read about the goings on in South Texas in the past and to apply that history to today's map. It is equally as interesting to leearn the origin of the names applied to counties in South Texas and the players in those early days. This is slow reading but it is very important to me as the information gives me perspective.

Family history
As a descendant of several people in the book, I have thoroughly enjoying reading it. The history of this part of the country is so rich and interesting. It does a great job of bringing this period to life.

A must Reading for History Buffs
An exceptional piece of history of the Texas Valley. A must reading especially for Texans where we learn the documented truth of what it took to realize the Rio Grand Valley and the State of Texas to be sure. I highly recommend reading for all folks interested in Texas history,

I recommend this book to anyone who is a history buff ...
i bought this book for an uncle. I own one and have not read it all because it is packed with so much information that I have trouble soaking it all in. A big part of the history in the book is about my mother's side of the family and it verifies information passed down through the generations in my family. I recommend this book to anyone who is a history buff of the Rio Grande Valley, Texas. I do warn you that you have to have clear head and mind when you sit down to read it.

This book belongs in the home of every Texan.
If you have a love for Texas history or are a descendant of anyone that ever lived in south Texas this is a must read. It is a great addition to my collection. And it is in this book that I finally learned the name of my third great grandfather. I have found a couple of errors, but that's to be expected when genealogy is involved and with the release of so many new records, it is easy enough to correct. Overall, it is wonderful to be pulled back in time to get a better understanding of how Hispanics and European families learned to live together.
