SwagmanEXO Aero Roof Mount Kayak Rack

So I ordered these to hold my kayak and looks like it will fit perfectly. But the only down side I had is I had to cut the plates in two half’s, and weld a new plate to both sides to accommodate the square crossbar i made and it works perfectly now, with no shifting or sliding. But in overall they look great and hopefully hold up perfect.

This rack works for a variety of kayaks and supports them in a way that allows you to strap them tightly without deforming the boat. The rubber padding really stops movement for and aft almost to a fault if you have to move the boat around to position it. Maybe a squirt of water temporarily to get the boat in place would help. I have aero bars and there is hardware that works for those. It comes with two bow and stern tie down ropes with S hooks and some cam straps. The cam straps are pretty cheap and one of them the thumb spring failed on the first use. I have lots of those type of straps so that is not a big deal to me. I am not going to take any chances with cheap cam straps failing at highway speeds. I would recommend purchasing quality straps separately if you need them. These holders would be very easy to steal with the thumb screws. I rigged something up with wire cable to make that a little less easy without tools.

I now have two pair of these and have put about 1000 miles on them. They are more robust than they appear in pictures and have a nice, solid weight to them. The mounting hardware is simple and quick to install/remove. Materials are excellent so far and prevent any type of slip/movement of the boat. The steeper V shape will fit more aggressive hull profiles but will cause flatter and wider hulls to ride a bit higher in the carrier. In fact, my only small complaint is that the shape of the carrier is a bit higher than I would like. I've used them with several different boats and they performed well with all of them. The straps are supple and easy to use and haven't slipped at all. Honestly, if I could only have one kayak carrier I would most likely choose these.

One of the good things about this design is that the kayak cradle attaches to the roof bars at the point of the 'V'. On our Toyota Highlander this means that the kayak can be positioned further to the edge of the roof than other designs where the kayak cradle attaches to the roof bar on the both sides of the 'V' . As a result, two, fairly wide (30") kayaks will fit on our car without the need to tilt them on edge - they ride flat as they would on the water.

I list slide my kayak right up onto it and cinch it down. Note that I already had my own straps so I can't comment on those. I have this on my 3 inch flat bars and it fits, though I wish it would fit better. Perhaps if there was a T-slot adapter this would fit better, but if you have round bars, I think it would fit well.

Well made product and very heavy duty construction but fasteners and fingernuts to fasten to crossbars could be larger in diameter. They should be M8 instead of M6 to go along with very heavy construction.

Easy to take I'm and off if I need to

I got a set of these after i bought Malone's similar design. These are very comparable. I would say they're just as good, but the tie downs included could be better quality. That said, you can get better tie downs with the money you save from not buying Malone... and these also hold more weight than the competition!

La rack avant a craqué après 8 utilisation pour un kayak de 38 livres. La société Swagman devait me le remplacer sur garantie. C'étais en aout 2020 et bien nous sommes fin juin 2021 et je n'ai toujours pas eu le produit de remplacement et la société ne prévois pas en obtenir avant octobre!! donc je n'aurai pas de rack pour la saison estivale. et n'ont aucun produit de remplacement différent. Je trouve le service de la compagnie Swagman très décevant. SVP, envisager une autre marque!
