SOUNDS AMAZING (2017 86)
I'm writing this review because I didn't think many of the other reviews helped too much when I was looking at this catback. I was looking for exhaust that would make my 86 sound sporty, along with still being functional as a daily. After doing a ton of research and watching a bunch of youtube videos comparing sound, I decided to go with this one. I saw a lot of people say "it's barely louder than stock." I disagree. It's a good amount louder than stock and gives the car such a nice sporty sound, exactly what I was looking for. The first week I had it I got a little annoyed with it just because I wasn't use to so much noise all the time when I was driving (which tells you it is definitely louder than stock). I don't think I've experienced any drone at all. After the first week I got use to it and I love the way it sounds now. The install was sooooo simple. My car is an automatic, and when I put it in sport mode there's a LITTLE pop when it switches gears for the first couple of them (I'll put it in sport mode just to hear it, but it is little). Not sure if this would be the case in a stick. This video is the best one I have where you can really hear the exhaust. Definitely don't base your decision solely on this video, there's a bunch on youtube that compare the most popular catbacks. I have 0 complaints with the product and would recommend to anyone wanting to improve the sound of their 86/frs/brz. I don't know if there has been any horsepower added with this exhaust, but I was only looking to enhance the sound not the speed.

I love it !
I spent a lot of time listening to videos and looking at Corsa, Perrin, Tomei, Invidia, and the list goes on. I wanted that right kind of sound if you got on the gas and a nice idle that wasn't screaming loud at 3k RPM cruise. Well this has really lived up to the expectation. Really changed the experience of the driving. Has it contributed to HP, probably not much. I coupled this with a tomei UEL and overpipe and openflash stage 2+ 93 octane tune. All of that in front of the Borla cat back has probably added to HP and made the Borla sound even better. It all adds a little. But the catback is what is really adding to the experience. It is nice low boxer rumble and holds that all the way 7-8k rpm pulls. You may think it's going to blow up but it sounds great! Install wise it's fairly easy. Just follow the instructions. Getting the tips right is the hardest part. The hangers don't bend easy, which is what you want but it's a bear if you are trying to snug them up under the car, but even out of the box they hang pretty good. Worth the money, it's not the most expensive catback out there. I also highly recommend changing the shifter bushing, springs, and putting a short throw shifter. I coupled this with a nice couter-weighted Raceseng knob and wow! So much fun to drive.

Sounds great, lightweight simple install.
I ordered this from Amazon and had it delivered to a local shop. They installed it for 60 bucks. The guy installing it remarked on how much lighter and easier to work with the Borla catback vs stock. One of the sleeves on the exhaust tips didn't fit over the exit pipe correctly. He had to tap the exhaust sleeve so that it would fit correctly. The other side fit over fine and didn't need it. I really like the double sleeve exhaust tip and the Borla logo on the tip. Looks so nice. You can really hear these @ 4000 rpm and you will get burble and pop although not at every gear (so far, just after the first gear above 4k shifts). Higher than 4k and the engine's induction noise seems to drown out the exhaust. The shop said wait to see if this changes. The only drawback I could see was the odd placement of the muffler halfway up the car. This sounds nothing like stock and you will not forget this upgrade. With some upgrades you forget what it was like before the upgrade. You definitely will not have that problem with this. Looks and sounds so much better than stock exhaust. An odd benefit of this exhaust is that shifting becomes easier. At low rpms it's sometimes hard to tell how much throttle you're giving the transmission. With the Borla you can hear exactly how much throttle you've got on and low rpm shifting (ie parking lot driving) improves as a result. Weird but that's what happened to me.

Great DIY exhaust if you have access to a lift or stands. Otherwise get it professionally installed.
Great Borla exhaust system for BRZ/FR-S/GT86. Makes 109dB at high RPM, so check your local sound ordinance . Not CARB legal. Awesome growl too it. I haven't noticed any drone. Instructions are vague. (Put hangers on exhaust first!!! I went with Perrin polyurethane hangers for no movement, but stock will work.) You will have to manually play around with the exhaust tips to get them lined up properly. I did mine by adjusting the hangers. The only gasket you'll need is the one between the cat & muffler, if it's an older car, it's highly recommended to purchase a new one. Also not stated in the directions, factory torque specs between the new muffler section & cat are 10ft-lbs or 120" or 13.5N-m depending on the torque wrench. Hope this helps.
