Rockville Pike: A Suburban Comedy of Manners

A delightful,extremely well written read
If you prefer your comedy more like Frasier than Friends, then this is a book to take with you somewhere on your own and get lost in. Jane is the reluctant part-owner of a furniture store with her husband, trying to keep on an even keel in some very stormy waters. When a potential rival suddenly appears things begin to go even more downhill, and Jane's juggling act starts to become near impossible. This novel is packed with wry observations, and I was constantly nodding my head and smiling in agreement. Some of the set-piece scenes will have you laughing out loud while still being able to sympathize with the central character - a woman who is warm, refereshing, and who you think, when you finish the book, would make a very good friend. The style of writing is light and deft; you read through the pages enjoying the story with almost no effort. In total, a refreshing, original, witty comedy and very pleasurable read!

Local Based Novel
This novel is based in Rockville MD , and I am familiar with that area - the story was nicely weaved with local color and wound up to be pretty good. I am getting ready to try a 2nd by this author called Beach Week.

Bravo!
This book is smart, funny, and hilarious! The story is NOT predictable, the characters are unlike any I've ever read about, and it was such a fun read that I wish it had been twice as long. This would make a great movie!

Three Stars
Very good up to a point. But the author sacrificed credibility for a happy ending.
