This is an echo/delay pedal but the reviews are about many different other pedals such as: od, dist, reverb, pink box, eq, preamp etc.. hello houston?

Amazon seems to mix all the Caline reviews together. I've noticed that about other products too. I have the reverb and the Lucky 7 and they are good, is all I can say.

Does it take batteries

Yes 1ea 9v, you have to remove the bottom plate, there are 4 screws.

This pedal worked for about a half hour. Exchanged for new one and that doesn't work at all. Any odd tricks to using it or just bad luck?

I've not had problems with mine. My only suggestion is to be sure you're using quality cables. The cheap cords with the molded on plugs are trash. They WILL fail at the worst possible time.I've also had problems with the power supply. Good Luck
